Types of interior shutters you should consider

Posted by mitch on Aug-29-2010

I’ve been a mom for more than 40 years (no divulging of age!). Anyway, my point is that I want to share what I’ve learned about housekeeping. There are two types of interior shutters that you should consider in this lifetime. I think you should just go for vinyl when you really don’t have the budget for interior shutters. You know, the emergency situations when your shutters fail on you when you most need it. Wood interior shutters, on the other hand, should be your choice if you have the budget. They really last well. The downside is that you might have to varnish or repaint them to make them look always new.

Classic appeal

We have this very difficult client that we didn’t want to work with anymore. Oh well, we just wished we could do it. The god thing about her is that she often recommends us to other friends who also need interior designing. The last project I handled for her is a small hotel at the country. She wants to have a classic looking interiors but at the same time attain a minimalist look. However, she required us to use the traditional wood plantation shutters you’ll find in most Southern homes. She’s a very picky customer but I guess we were able to capture the classic appeal she was looking for.

When necessity calls for it

You can say that I am not a woman that can be relied on the house. I really am not the homebody type. You can just imagine the changes I’ve gone through when I settled down with my husband. The fact that we have our own house made the task even more challenging for me. I remember the first week of shopping for stuffs in the house. I went to a home improvement store which my mom says has friendly staffs. I asked for interior shutters and the attendant showed me lots of them. I didn’t even know what I need! Good thing the staffs there are very helpful.

Vinyl shutters all the way

I was once asked by a friend what interior shutters I prefer. I immediately answered that vinyl has always been a choice. I pointed out that it always seems to fit my budget very well. She asked if these shutters are a good investment. Actually, I can’t say. I mean, I’m the type who would change interior designs almost every quarter. So, I didn’t really know if the shutters would last longer than that. I read somewhere that it depend on the quality of the vinyl shutters. So, I told my friend about the pointers I found on the Internet. I think she’ll go with vinyl shutters too.

Do you need interior shutters?

There had been the popular support for shutters. Of course, you can always opt for the exterior shutters if it would make you comfortable. The good thing out exterior ones is that they provide the house an improved aesthetics. However, interior shutters would be a rather better option. I think this stems from my experience. Exterior wood shutters are hard to maintain since they are exposed to weather conditions as opposed to interior ones. I believe it’s impractical to go with things that won’t last you long these days. It would be best to go a little bit wiser while the economy is still in trouble.

Too much sun

My new office room has these wide windows. It’s a great addition, honestly, because I feel that I can see the whole city from it. However, it’s becoming an inconvenience especially during the afternoon. It’s okay in the morning because I love sunshine. I asked my secretary how we could coordinate with the administrators to set up interior shutters for my room. I also pointed out that maybe we could let an interior designer look at the type of shutters we can use. It’s a good thing there is a resident designing team. They picked out amazing vinyl shutters for my room.

Interior makeover

My sister and I, both designers by profession, decided to give our old house a much-needed makeover. We scrapped out the old window frames and built new ones. We also bought matching interior shutters. The money we got from the garage sale were used for repainting the living room and mom’s kitchen. I bought some good flower vases from an antique shop and have it repainted with a new color. I think my mom would be more than inspired to cut fresh flowers from her garden every day. My dad just had one wish for the makeover—leave his study alone.
