Romantic dinners

Posted by mitch on Aug-30-2010

The economy is really getting into my nerves. My husband and I were in the middle of budgeting when I blurted out that we don’t even have extra money just to go on a dinner date. My husband really laughed at me. Yesterday, I came early from work only to find that the kids were in my in-laws.  My husband welcomed me with a kiss as usual but there was something sneaky in the way he smiles. When I told him I’ll cook dinner,  he said he needs to talk about something so we went into the yard. Out there was a candle lit setup of dinner. The iron patio furniture and swing were even showered with red and pink rose petals. It was my husband’s version of dinner date!

Outdoor innovations

My kids seem to be spending a lot more time in the yard. My husband thinks that we should get them new iron patio furniture to make them more comfortable. After all, they would probably outgrow their plastic chairs and toys soon. I’m thinking of getting them an iron swing as well. That way, they could enjoy afternoons lazing in the swing. But I guess, I have to wait until my youngest, Rob, turns seven. That way I would have peace of mind that he won’t get into any messy accident with the swing. Honestly, I wasn’t really into outdoor activities when I was younger so I’m getting surprised that I know these outdoor innovations.

Looking for iron patio furniture

Posted by mitch on Aug-24-2010

We need to have new iron patio furniture because the ones we have are too much child-inspired. Now that the kids are growing up, we felt we need ones that would suit them well. We got two sets of four-seat chair and table, and a rocking chair. The rocking chair is way beyond the budget but my husband couldn’t let it go when we were in the store. I think we got the right ones, anyway. The kids seem to be more encouraged to spend the late afternoons in the patio. I even saw them doing their home works there.

Outdoor makeover

I got a long weekend from work last week. So, I decided to do a much needed makeover for our outdoor space. I bought some flower seeds and planted them along the lines of the patio. I also repainted our iron patio furniture to make it look brand new. I trimmed the rose bushes that we have. I also devoted much time in weeding. I was so careful that I might pull out plant sprouts instead of weeds. By the end of the day, I found myself looking at the sunset while soiled in mud and dirt. I badly need a good bath.

Gardening

I am definitely a person who doesn’t have a green thumb. That’s why it’s a challenge to keep up the small garden that we have in our new home. I spent several weeks reading about gardening. I bought some books and stuff. My husband bought me iron patio furniture set so that I can rest in the garden during work. After several books and lots of articles, I purchased some flower seeds and gave gardening a try. My flowers are starting to have buds. They’ve been there for a couple of weeks and I think they’re healthy. I got so obsessed with gardening that I watch over them most of the day.

Repairing stuff

Posted by mitch on Aug-17-2010

We haven’t done any house maintenance in the last year. So, when one of our water pipes went down, we got this idea that we should dedicate the weekend to house repair. We started with the essentials first. Then, I got my eye on our iron patio furniture. I repainted them with a nice chrome color. My husband got happy with the work since it made the pieces look new. Then, he showed me a new cabinet he is working on in the garage. I got so excited sine we really need an additional cabinet in our daughter’s room. I think doing things together serves two purposes—bonding and saving from expenses.

To buy or not to buy

Posted by mitch on Aug-15-2010

My brother and I were saving up for an iron patio furniture set that we saw last month. It’s a nice four-piece table and chair that would very well look good on our small outdoor space. We were about to hit the store tomorrow. However, we found this very nice matching rocking chairs at a neighbor’s ongoing sale. They are very much sturdy and slightly used. They are also cheaper than the furniture. Now, we are thinking twice what would be the best buy of the two. The rocking chairs would be more comfortable but only two persons can use it at a time.
