Linda Barker – Great Spring Designs

Posted by Jade Martins on Wednesday, 5:41 pm

Spring time is the perfect season to change the look of your home, says Linda Barker.   You need not pay a professional to do this.  Linda Barker together with COTTON USA has come up with achievable design tips.

As published in easier.com the following interior design tips are as follows:

Inject Color. Tints of lavender or deep mulberry colors are great for bedrooms.  You can have new curtains to incorporate this suggestion or even in bed sheets and pillow cases.  And if you prefer to have a fresh look, you can always paint your bedroom with a comforting color.

Crisp, Clean Sheets. You can create a fresher look in your bedroom by purchasing new sheets, pillows or duvets.  Choosing a fabric that is of high quality will certainly be lovely.

Keep It Fresh. When it is spring time, it would be nice to breathe fresh air.  You can do this by opening your windows. Enhance your bedroom’s freshness by adding fresh flowers as ornaments.  Flowers in season would be best.

Stay Natural. You can do this by making use of breathable cotton bed linen.

Define Your Room.  Defining an area can be simple as an area rug that blends well with the room.

Hide Clutter. Use organizers to get things organized.  Clutter can ruin everything.  No matter how much you would create a new look for your room.   There are many cheap organizers you can buy.

Go Bold In The Bathroom. Do not forget your bathroom, this too needs a lift.  Bright colors would really create a good bathroom environment.

Get Hanging.  Use clothes hooks instead of tower rails.

It is easy to recreate living spaces with simple and affordable means. Linda Barker says this so in her wonderful interior design tips.

Ideas for your Interior Painting

Posted by Jade Martins on Wednesday, 4:02 am

There is no doubt that getting the right paint for your home will have a huge effect on your home decorating. There are a few things that you can do so that you discover the unique look you are after.

You don’t have to go with one color! Instead of that boring monochrome effect that is easy to do but doesn’t do much for your decor, try painting a wall two colors instead. This is called creating an accent wall.

Paint your ceiling a unique color. Often, ceilings are painted light colors such as white but you can come up with your own homey effect if you try something different.

Use your creativity. If you really are a creative person who isn’t afraid to experiment, you can also try painting a mural on your walls. These can be a very good idea in the children’s room or the bedroom.

Moldings often get ignored during new paint jobs, but taking the time to paint them a shade lighter than the wall can give the room an extra level of sophistication. These kinds of details may seem trivial, but they are opportunities to give your house a professional looking touch.

There are so many things that you can do to give your home decor that personal touch.

Color Harmony in the Home

Posted by Jade Martins on Monday, 9:22 pm

There are many color combinations that are used to create a particular mood and look. The way a home is painted creates the mood of the home.   It all depends on someone’s preference.  People have different tastes.  Selecting what color to paint is usually based on this premise.

For example, a bubbly personality may prefer bright and vibrant colors.  Bright colors increase the energy.  It keeps people feeling sunny and positive.  It signifies fun and unconventionalities. Thus, more often, a person with this type of personality adapts an eclectic interior design style.  This is adding more colors to the wall by complementary ornamentation.  These could be in the form of fabrics, texture and many others.

Another example would be a cool but reserved type of person may prefer neutral tones or the combination of black and white.  These tints usually attract this type of people.  These are then complemented with other solid colors like red.  More often, the fixtures that go with it are cleaned lined and most of the time furniture are made of dark wood.  Such effect would give the home a contemporary interior design style.

Some people love regional look.  For example, a Chinese inspired style would use more of red and gold colors.  Wooden flooring is preferred to create that perfect Asian interior design style.

Others would love earth colors like that of what was quoted in an article by Jessica Cumberbatch Anderson in her article entitled “8 Classic Color Combos” which goes:

“Most classic color combos in design are those borrowed from nature, says California designer and color expert Kelly Berg. Case in point: yellow and green, reminiscent of sun and plants. “If nature tells us they work together, then they work together,” Kelly says. And since there isn’t just one yellow and one green, the combination can create many different effects. Use the two as a base, Kelly suggests, and then add a third and a fourth color to the mix, such as blue or red. Her favorite shades: Pratt and Lambert’s Yellow Quartz and Sea Oat.”

Choosing the Right Paint

Posted by Jade Martins on Monday, 9:19 pm

Paint can do wonders in the home.  As a matter of fact it is something that can not be sacrificed.  You can have less ornamentation for as long as your wall is painted, you can have a pleasing home.  First, paint keeps the look of the home clean and organized.  This is because it creates uniformity and if with varied colors a good harmony.  Even a white paint can look dainty and classy with even just few and basic furniture around.  Second, paint set the mood of the home.  As a matter of fact, a visitor can always tell what personality a person has with the color of paint she/he chooses.  Third, more than the mood, it sets the ambience whether you would want to have a formal atmosphere or a less formal atmosphere.

Choosing the right color combination of paint colors is very important.  Even painting the walls would require good color combination and not something that hurts the eye.  The best way to do this is to mix and match samples if you have to do the painting yourself.  You can also do some research to give you more ideas on which color combination would work best at the same time suits your tastes.  The process can be fun.  However, you can always hire a professional to make things easier.

Now, choosing a paint does not only require right color harmony.  It also requires what kind of paint you are going to buy specifically considering the components that go with the paint.  A good point discussed in an article entitled, “Green living: paint” by Rebecca R. Konya says that…

“Paint is one of the simplest and most economical ways to add personality and a pop of color to a room. But conventional solvent-based paint also can pose significant environmental and health risks, contributing to indoor air pollution and generating potentially harmful irritants that may cause adverse health effects like respiratory problems, headaches, and eye and skin inflammation.

Fortunately, major paint manufacturers have responded to consumer demand for safer interior paint with low- and no-VOC water-based paints. And opting to color your walls with eco-friendly interior paint doesn’t mean sacrificing quality. Unlike their early predecessors, low- and no-VOC paints on the market today offer great coverage in a range of colors and are comparable in price to traditional interior paint.”
