Easy Steps: Making your Kid’s Room to a Teen’s Room

Posted by Jade Martins on Friday, 4:01 am

Years have passed and y our once little darling has grown into a teen.  Now, you are faced with a tasked to convert his or her room to a more appropriate room for a teen.  That is simple and easy.  The Daily Journal has recently published tips about how to go about this task.

Leanne Italie, in the report said that the following can be done for the furniture.  In her report she also quoted Berkus saying,

““Go for classic lines, not something too youthful. Going with a vintage chest of drawers is a good idea, like English mahogany or Swedish Painted. I’m more interested in people having something that’s an investment of a lifetime. How can I not have to replace something because I’ve bought into a theme?”

Italie further said that teens already have different preferences.  They would not even care if they have a bigger floor area.  Gone were the days where they need it when they want to play Lego.  Having a couch in your teenager’s room would be great seating space for leisure reading.

For the color of the room, it is best that the teen have a say about it.  They can have strange preference.  If you are in for repainting, ask what your child likes.  Moreover, there are other ways to enhance the color of the room and that is through the sheets, linens and pillows.  Curtains or blinds can also contribute to enhancing the color of the room.

In addition, the report has something to say on closet, shelves and containers.

“Reserve shelf space for a favorite doll, toy and a few old books, but not front and center. Consider spacing mementoes between stacks of books, CDs or magazines. Offer storage in another room for anything else they might want to keep but not display.”
