Opting for classic finds

Posted by mitch on Aug-9-2010

Decorating the house is always a journey. It is important that you know what you want and how you are going to achieve it. The first step is to have an imagined look that you want to get. For people who are relying on their creative intuition, it might be safer to go for classic pieces at home. For example, instead of going on modern shutters, it might be best to go for wood plantation shutters. Instead of going for modern steel tables, you might want to consider getting the hardwood ones. Home interior designing is just a matter of picking from choices.

Right shutters

They say that it is really tricky to choose over a lot of things. In my case, I had a hard time with window shutters. I am so tempted to go with wood plantation shutters since they are a classic. But, I also want to achieve a minimalist look for my living room. I read somewhere that you can still do so even if you use plantation shutters. Maybe I should just see to it that the slats and frame of the shutters are thinner than they regularly appear to be. I would try to picture out this and see how it would go with my whole interior decoration.

Not a fan of cleaning up

I’m not really a person who would love to clean everything up. I mean, I don’t like mess either. That’s why I make it a point t have stuffs that are easy to clean. Last week, my mom wanted me to help her clean her house’s wood plantation shutters. The old house has a lot of windows and our shutters really look endless. It took us a day to finish everything but I think I had a great time. The shutters were easy to clean. And my mom and I had a great quality time together.

Your kind of interior shutters

I have read a lot of articles on interior designing the last weeks. I am really looking for advice on the kind of interior shutters I should use. So far, the one I’m leaning onto right now is wood plantation shutters. I am all for it being a good investment since they tend to last long. As a matter of fact, a friend even recommended a carpenter who does wood shutters at  very reasonable price. It’s a relief since I thought I would be sticking to pre-made ones. Customized wood shutters would be a great addition to my interiors.

Cleaning up the house

For some reason, my mom and I opted to get a garage sale going next week. To do that, we need to have stuff. So, we embarked on this major cleanup day this weekend. I had a good challenge in cleaning our wood plantation shutters. The dust really stuck in the slats of the shutters. Good thing we had this hand-held vacuum. I also got to varnish them again. When we went to the attic or also known as our storage space, we found a gazillion things we should let go. There are a lot of stuff up for grabs next week. And, we’re still not finished cleaning.

Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn

We had this recent project which has a theme of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. It was actually a room for a kid who really likes Mark Twain books. So, his mom wanted us revamp his kid’s bedroom to that effect as a surprise. We got everything ready and worked out. From the bed to the antique cabinet back to the walls. We were about to hand over the room a few days before our deadline when we realized that we didn’t do anything with the windows except paint it. We needed to come up with a quick solution and we did. We just installed old Louisina-inspired wood plantation shutters. Our client loved it!

The beauty of the traditional

My husband and I spent the weekend on a friend’s place in the country. It was really an exhilarating experience. Being an interior decorator myself, I was so amused with our friend’s country home. There were a lot of wood furniture in the house. They also have authentic wood plantation shutters that my friend says goes back when he was still a kid. There were antique glass cabinets and tables. The room we stayed in even has a small walk-in closet with antique country drawers. My husband bets that I would surely have a country chick kick in my next designs.
