It is not clear what exactly you want to know. Are you asking suggestions for the activity to be undertaken by the Small Scale Industry ? But you have already made up your mind and you know what is your line of interest . Do you want to know which activity will be profitable ? That can be determined only on the basis of potential in the area , type of people staying around the proposed location , amount of capital you want to invest and most important : quality of your output. You are advised to first make up your mind about what exactly you want to do, study the market environment there and then seek suggestions about that product .

Tips on making a small bedroom appear larger?

Posted by Jade Martins on Jul-29-2010

I recently purchased my first home and am in the processing of decorating. My master bedroom is a bit smaller than previously (at my apartment). My bed is queen sized so it tend to take up a lot of room so I am looking for some tips to make the room appear larger.

Getting rid of the bed is not an option right now because I don’t have the money to replace it. I know that light colors will make the room appear more spacious but do you guys have any more tips for me?

Let plenty of sunshine in bright lights at nighttime….and a dresser with a big mirror will make it appear more spacious. Any mirrors in general will do. The more simple you keep it, the larger it will appear…meaning easy on the nic-naks (sp?) and busy patters for the beadspread and curtains.

i need tips for decorating a small sitting room?

Posted by Jade Martins on Jul-4-2010

im moving into a flat thats much smaller than my current home.
the sitting room (lounge) is quite small and im not sure how to decorate it.
i know what colours id like to use (mainly shades of browns, biscuits and chocolates) but i dunno how to make the room appear more spacious.
its a square-ish boxy kinda room, no fire place or anything…

any ideas.
i have a dog so white furnishings arent a good idea.
i have most of the furnature already its the decorating/painting side of it i need the most help with.

I would have said lighter colours on 3 walls and 1 dark wall usually the one with the fireplace in it or the focal wall. Also a big mirror gives the illusion of a larger room.

How should I decorate my small room?

Posted by Jade Martins on Apr-23-2010

I have a very small room. I have a freezer with a mattress and blankets as my bed! I actually like it. My mom will not let me paint the walls so that’s off the list. I want a girly room. I want to know how should i decorate my small room with home made stuff? and how do I make homemade crafts for my room?

since you can’t paint it, you can make posters for it or you can decorate it with origami hearts for a girly look. you can also have a collage on the wall to make your room more homey. hope this helps. :)

Kitchen Decorating – The Center of Your Home

Posted by Jade Martins on Feb-20-2010

What part of your home do you and your family spend the most time? In many households the gravitational pull of the kitchen area brings family members together at some point in the day for basic nourishment needs and communication updates.

Whether your meal times include snacks on the run or elaborate multi course settings, there are simple ways to transform your family’s hub space into an inviting and comfortable refuge.

Unless you’ve designed your kitchen space to suit your own specific needs, the placement of built in cabinets and appliances are immoveable without major renovations.

Start with what you have as far as the cabinet’s finish and the flooring and make the kitchen space your own with personalized decorating choices.

For efficient food preparation, lighting is important. A single overhead light fixture in the ceiling is normally all that is provided in the kitchen. Adequate for raiding the fridge at night, but this minimal lighting is apt to create shadows as you work at the countertop. Remedy this dim situation by installing low profile task lights under the upper cabinets. This lighting solution uses minimal electricity, is unobtrusive, and provides bright, directed light where you need it on the work surface.

Now that you can more easily see your kitchen space, notice how unremarkable those tired kitchen cabinets are looking. Refinishing wood doors or painting them is a big job, but may be worth the effort if the finish is seriously marred. A simpler solution is to re-accessorize your cabinet doors and drawers with new handles or knobs. Just as you change your own jewelry, or add an accent scarf, the new cabinet hardware may be just what your kitchen cabinets need for a revitalized look.

Countertop clutter in a busy household can make your kitchen seem small and unusable.

Start by removing any small appliances, canisters or containers that are rarely used. That time saving gadget you had to have is costing you productive minutes if it’s taking up counter space you could be using for meal preparation. Give yourself some elbow room by storing unused items in a cabinet, closet or even another room. Better still, pass the indispensible gadget on to someone else- with more counter space.

Horizontal surfaces throughout the house, and especially in the kitchen, frequently become catch alls. Toss your keys, newspaper, the daily mail and other easily dropped items into a useful countertop basket. A divided basket with a space for each family member is ideal. Make this practice a household rule and you’ll never have to search for misplaced items again. And, you won’t have to clear a space to begin meal preparations.

Increase the cozy factor of your kitchen space by adding an area rug over your hard surface flooring. The rug will cushion the cook’s stance while it adds a dash of color. A printed area rug breaks up the mostly solid colored cabinet, countertop and flooring surfaces of the kitchen. Select a small rug for where you stand the most or a room sized rug to visually expand your space. The colors and design of the area rug will set the tone. Are you looking for a country kitchen, a modern décor, or traditional mode? You’ll find a delightfully appropriate area rug that describes the look you want.

Carry the colors and designs from your area rug up onto the walls by adding a coordinating wallpaper border above your upper cabinets or in the space between your cabinets and countertops. For a more artistic look, try out a do-it-yourself stencil kit to create your own, one of a kind, decorative touch.

The center of your home, the hub of numerous family activities, can be designed as an efficient and attractive gathering space. Try these simple updates create comfort and livability in your kitchen space.

Decorating Your Home Requires Good Planning

Posted by Jade Martins on Feb-16-2010

Home decorating can be a challenge. But, if done properly, very rewarding. Beware though, there can be pitfalls to such a do-it-yourself project. So before you start any home decorating project, weigh up the pros and cons.

Choose Materials Carefully

The variety of materials now available offers you considerable choice when it comes to the style in which you decorate your home. What is practical in your area? Will a decorative wallpaper present a pleasing appearance? Or perhaps you prefer a veneer or a fabric wall covering? You may conclude that a simple coat of paint will provide the look you prefer. Before finally deciding, take into account the practical aspects. These include the cost, the durability of the finish, the ease of installation, and the time and effort needed to maintain and clean the walls. All of this has to be compared with what it would cost to have professionals do the work.

The color of your chosen decorative material is also important. Will it blend with other features of the room? If the room is usually cold, a warm shade of paint will create the sense of warmth. Light blue or green hues will make rooms that are on the warmer side of the house seem cooler. Dark or poorly lighted rooms can be brightened with light-colored finishes.

A kitchen often gets hot of course. Therefore, some prefer a cooler color, to `cool down` the room. A bathroom, on the other hand, is a place where a `warmer` color, a red, or brown, for example, will create a warmer feeling.

Very small rooms suit pale, cool colors. Coat low ceilings with a pale paint, and contrast with slightly darker walls to create an illusion of height. If you choose dark colors bear in mind they absorb heat and have more moisture problems than lighter shades. Dark paint fades quicker, so it’s difficult to touch up.

Planning and Preparing the Key

The secret of successful decorating is good preparation! Professional decorators take time and effort to prepare surfaces for painting, in comparison with the time it actually takes to do the job. If you are doing it yourself, do not skimp on time and effort when getting ready. You should aim for a surface that is dry, smooth, and clean.

Repair damaged surfaces by filling in cracks. Then rub down the repaired surface with glasspaper or sandpaper to achieve smoothness. Before you begin to paint, wash the surface with a damp cloth to remove dust from the wall plaster, and allow to dry.

What about your plan of action? Will anyone else in the family be able to provide help, whether it`s in the preparation, or in the painting, and/or wallpapering itself? And, there`s nothing worse than getting partway through and finding that you have insufficient materials to complete the job. And if the stores are closed you can`t just go out to buy more. So, make sure you have all the tools and decorating materials you need to finish the job.

Correct Care Of Brushes And Rollers

1. Bend and thoroughly work the bristles of a new brush to remove dust and loose bristles.
2. Avoid dipping the brush too deeply into the paint. (Cover only between one third and one half of the length of the bristles to prevent excess paint from becoming embedded in the stem.)
3. Clean the brush after use. Use mineral spirits for oil-based paint and warm water for latex, or water-based, paints.
4. Store clean, dry brushes in clean paper to absorb remaining dampness and help keep the bristles in shape.
5. Follow a similar procedure with paint rollers, making sure to dry any metal parts completely to prevent rust and consequent paint discoloration next time you use them.

Midwest home selling tips?

Posted by Jade Martins on Feb-14-2010

What are 5-10 improvements/decorating tips I can do to sell my old, small (900sf) home. I have plenty of time, I’m planning on listing next spring.

1) Box up anything smaller than a football you don’t absolutely, positively have to use on a day to day basis.
2) Replace worn, dated flooring. Including carpeting and linoleum. Buyer’s can not imagine what it will look like, they need to see what it IS like, right now.
3) PAINT everything a neutral color. A lot of buyer’s are turned off if their furnishings don’t go with the paint colors you have right now. Not to mention, fresh paint kills any odors that you might not even realize you have in the house.
4) Pull up area rugs!! They break up the space, draw too much attention, and make buyer’s wonder what you’re hiding.
5) Update old lighting fixtures. They will help your house compete with newer homes on the market and they are a cheap and easy do-it-yourself fix.
6) Edit your furnishings down to only what you absolutely need. Arrange furniture at least 8 inches from the walls and angle some for visual interst.
7) Keep in mind, buyer’s walk through most listings in about 10 minutes the first time around, so make sure the features of your home come into focus as soon as they walk in the door. That means accessorizing to draw the eye directly to them without overpowering them. IE: Bright greenery on top of a mantel with a couple of shiny candlesticks will serve you better than some eye-popping artwork.
8) Remove window screens that aren’t needed daily to flood your rooms with natural light. Update lampshades and bulbs to make your rooms shine even brighter.
9) Make sure the house is HOSPITAL CLEAN, especially kitchens and bathrooms. Just avoid the hospital smell. Fresh citrus cleaners are better than pine-based solutions.
10) Fresh mulch can boost your curb appeal 100%!! Makes your place look freshly landscaped.
11) Paint your front door a glossy fresh color! Add a bright brass kick plate for added sass. And a bright pot of mature annuals is always a welcoming touch.
