Simple And Great Ideas For Home Decorating

Modern Home Decorating

Decorating your home can be quite a fascinating idea. But coming up with perfect ideas for home decorating can sometimes be quite confusing. The contemporary trends are quite stylish and simple. But before decorating your home, decide which part you want to focus on; whether it is the whole home that you want to decorate or is it any particular corner. You may also surf the net to get some innovative ideas for home decorating.

Furniture stores

Another way to get some great ideas for home decorating is to take a stroll across the furniture stores in your locality or elsewhere. They keep some readymade models ready. You may select any one of them or take some ideas from a particular model to customize according your needs and requirements. In the furniture stores, the furniture is creatively arranged and well complemented with various figurines and paintings.

Home decorating colors

When you are choosing colors for home decorating, make sure it perfectly complements the theme as well as the climatic conditions and room size. If you have monochromatic walls, then you may use two to three color accents to make it look more attractive. More than two to three colors is, however, not desirable. Based on your tastes and preferences, you may as well use some prints like floral, plaids and checks.

Know the Basics

You get immense satisfaction when you select ideas for home decorating yourself but make sure you don’t overdo it. Finding the appropriate items matter a lot in home decoration. If you do not feel confident then hire a professional for the job. They will guide you on the basics as well as suggest some great choices.

Great ideas for home decorating will make your home a better place to live in. Stick to whatever you feel is the best for your home because it’s you who knows your home better than anyone else.

In my interior designer practice, I’m often asked by my clients “What’s my style?” They’re having a hard time identifying their own style, and they turn to me as an expert. I always tell them, “The style you like is your style!”

What exactly does that mean? It simply means that, just as you are unique, so is your style. Your style is a reflection of your own taste, lifestyle, and history.

Your style will undoubtedly evolve as you mature. The style you like when you’re in your 50s will probably be different from the style you liked in your 20s. That’s normal. As we change, our tastes change too. We shouldn’t fight the changes, we should embrace them.

You might find that you like a combination of typical interior design styles, and that may seem confusing. But there’s nothing wrong with combining styles. We’re no longer locked into just one style or another. The most important thing is to relax, have fun and enjoy designing your home.

At one time, it was common to select either a traditional, modern, contemporary, art décor or other defined style. But it’s not so cut-and-dried today, because of the many new styles, including eclectic and shabby chic.

In fact, eclectic and shabby chic styles are great examples of styles that were created without any of the old established boundaries. They were born out of the need for new individual looks ? a buffet of different styles all mixed together to create new styles.

Of course, all of these styles can make selecting your style more confusing. And sometimes it’s just too difficult to choose just one style. That’s okay. You can break the rules and still achieve your design goals.

So, remember, choose your style wisely, and take time to decide. But never forget-it is YOUR style!

Getting Started With Interior Design

Posted by admin on Mar-13-2010

It is often difficult for people starting with Interior Design to know where to start. Good interior design or style mainly arises out of a feeling, flair or an intuition for colour, pattern and scale. For this to be rewarding or pleasing the end result must be functional, practical and stylish.

To get you going with achieving these goals, here are a couple of practical tips:

~ Before decorating, start a scrap book. ~

Collect samples of colors as well as photographs of rooms that you like. Analyze your scrapbook to determine styles and colors that are your preferences. Even if you do not intend decorating the whole house straight away, it is good practice to draw up a color schedule, listing all the colors you intend to use. This forces you to devise a scheme that works in the whole, rather than a piecemeal, room-by-room solution.

~ Plan your space ~

Whatever the size of a room, space must be organised carefully to provide distinct areas for different uses, but at the same time remain a harmonious whole. Planning is essential and in a sense you are obliged to finish the room first before you can start it, a catch-twenty-two situation. This does not mean that you have to buy everything at once but you should have a clear picture of the end result. I prefer the collect-as-you-go method since this way everything tells a story reflecting the interesting habitat of complex dynamic human beings.

~ Draw a floor plan ~

Draw a floor plan and place signature pieces. This will help you visualize the layout and organize your space as mentioned in the previous point. This will prevent you from making errors in terms of available space before you make expensive purchases. You can also to use the floor plan to try out various combinations of placements of pieces. A useful tip here is to draw your floor plan to scale on a large piece of paper and cut your main pieces out of smaller blocks of cardboard. This way you can move your pieces of furniture around on the plan in various configurations and can visualize the layout that much easier. Of course this is a low-tech option, there are much more high-tech solutions available for your PC, but this approach can be amazingly effective.

~ Start thinking about the details. ~

These are always the elements that get the least attention since the details are not as exciting to decide upon such as, for example, the color scheme. However, the details are vitally important and can make or break a scheme. They create a hidden life establishing relationships between different objects regulating the effect of competing centres of attention, introducing a sense of rhythm and strengthening line. Again, start collecting samples and photos of trimmings, door handles, light fittings and so forth.

Not the greatest skill with color nor the most careful choice of accessories and trimmings may prevent the result from looking flat and lifeless.

Surprisingly maybe, a sense of humour is an essential element in good design. Humour, flair and surprise these are all ways of describing the happy accident, the odd combination of objects or the quirky touch which makes a room a living interior rather than a studio set.

If you love interior decorating then an interior design job may be just what you are looking for. Often there is no better feeling than waking up into a home which looks professionally designed and which actually looks like a home. Interior designers get a great deal of comfort knowing that their creativity has helped another individual or family to enjoy their lives that little bit more! Also, it would give you the chance to have a well decorated home yourself. All it really needs is a little imagination!

How to Get Into the Interior Design Field

If you have been wondering how you could get into the interior design field then your first step should really be to research the education options within your area. Now, whilst you may have imagination and you may have the talent, nobody is going to hire you without any qualifications. It would be too much of a risk and not many people are too trusting these days. You need to be able to show what you can do and in order to do that you need to first get a qualification in interior design.

Once you have completed a college or university course, you can then focus on building up a portfolio. This is important if you want to show what you can do. Maybe if nobody will give you a chance, you could practice on friends and family? Usually friends and family are more than happy for you to redecorate one of their rooms and if they are happy with the result they may even let you loose on the whole house! In order to create a good portfolio you should take a picture of the room before you made it over and then take a picture afterwards. That way it gives people an idea of what you can do and it proves you know exactly what you are doing.

Working For A Company or Going it alone

When you first get into the interior design field, you will often find that you end up working for a company first. Whilst you may go into training and education imagining being alone and working for yourself, often it is just not that easy and you will need to work for a company before you can branch out. Working for a company will teach you new things and once you have enough experience you can then branch out on your own.

Remember that it will take some money to set the business up and also remember that all important profile too! It can take a while to build up a profile but you can do it if you really want to.

Algarve is a region in Portugal that is found at the southernmost part of the country and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the region as well. One of the thriving industries in Algarve is the furniture and interior design industry where interior designers create wonderful living spaces for the residents and for those who purchase vacation homes here with the use of local furniture as well as imported furniture. The kind of furniture design Algarve interior designers choose for their projects vary from one home to another and may include classic wood based furnishings, contemporary leather covered furniture and even post-modern metal based furniture.

Interior designers in Algarve and in some of the other regions of Portugal utilize furnishings from the region as well as from outside the region and the country to create the kind of ambiance their clients want. Some of the more popular choices in furniture design Algarve interior designers use for their work are the light wood pieces that can look good both indoors and outdoors. Such furniture, like patio chairs, garden benches with cushions, wicker and wood sofas, and wooden tables are some of the common favorites that interior designers in Algarve are often asked to include in their designs. These wood and wicker based furniture are often included in certain mixes of home furnishings to add warmth to a place and to give it a homey feel. This kind of a design is often popular among those who have holiday homes in Algarve and those who wish to create the tropical, seaside feeling that is what the region is popular for.

While some people in Algarve opt for the kind of furniture that gives off that homey feel, there are those who opt for a different kind of ambiance altogether. There are some homeowners who commission Algarve interior designers to include rather modern pieces in the way their homes are set up. The modern furniture design Algarve interior decorators use often include metal and leather mixed furniture for the dining room, combination leather furniture for the living room, metal and wicker mixed chairs and tables as well as glass and metal tables for the living room and dining rooms of these homes.

Choosing the furniture can be wholly delegated to the designer who simply presents the finished home to the client. Some homeowners however wish to have a hand in deciding what goes into their homes in Algarve and often choose some of the furniture for such an endeavor with the supervision and advice of the interior designer working on their homes. Some of these homeowners can take advantage of some of the furniture packages that already come mixed and matched for their convenience or they can choose individual pieces that they believe will look good together in their homes. The furniture design Algarve furniture makers and sellers find that is most popular with these homeowners is the design that exudes a certain resort town feeling which is what Algarve is rather popular for.

There are furniture stores in Algarve that interior decorators frequent for their needs and they may sometimes bring their clients in to see the numerous choices that are there. Some of these furnishings can be had cheaper in sets or can be bought as individual pieces to be mixed and matched for that unique appeal some homeowners want for their homes.

i love designing rooms and all that so i googled interior design games and all that came up was barbie and sites for 6 year olds!! does anyone know any good games about interior design? please tell me!

well, i found a game that has a 60 minute free trial and you download it and its called home sweet home…its a fun game but im looking for more of a game where you can choose furniture and design a whole room whether its a kitchen or a bathroom. Im looking for games like you are too so let me know if you find any.

I want to study interior design as a BA, but most art and design institutes ask the candidates to do those practical exercises as part of their entrance exam.

1. What are you suppose to do in them?
2. Do I need to be very skilled in sketching or is a simple training good enough?

Many thanks in advance!

In addition to what the first person said, you may want to practice doing some journal entries where you observe your surroundings and write what you see. While my school did not require a portfolio or entrance exam until after the first year in the program (we were cut from 80 students to 40 students after taking a year’s worth of classes), our portfolio required us to have journal entries where we just wrote about design in everyday life. I would imagine that on an exam they may do something like show you a picture of a building or other enttity and ask you to write about the it and the emotions that it evokes. I’m not talking about sappy writing or saying "the building made me happy", but just things like, "they way the two roof lines merged together asymmetrically further emphasized the energy the architect was trying to create, and that was continued by the activity inside". Some type of BS like that. I would basically make sure your ability to draw, your sense of scale, and your writing ability are tops before entering an exam.

I am a junior in high school and I am interested in pursuing interior design. I live in Santa Monica, so I am down the street from Los Angeles. I am curious as to what the most prestigious colleges are for interior design in the U.S. but I am most interested in the Los Angeles City area. Thanks!

I have been researching this too. I am about to graduate with a degree in something more general, so my options are a little bit limited compared to yours. However, I have found the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM), California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), California State University, Northridge (CSUN), Woodbury University, and Santa Monica College. These programs all look like they are worth finding out more information. Right now, I’m leaning toward choosing FIDM, but I’m still unsure.

Please, let me know which program you end up choosing and why. It will really help me in my own search. You can email me.
