Interior decorating your Dorm

Posted by Jade Martins on Apr-18-2011

Leaving home sweet home to live in a dorm can be a two-fold experience. Though you may feel initially excited about the new found independence you will be having, getting used to such a limited living space can be difficult. Here are some interior decorating tips that can help you settle nicely in your new home.

“Decorate as quickly as possible so you get to enjoy it for the entire year,” Skinner recommended. Skinner graduated from Brown University in May. “I made the mistake of decorating three months in and with school year being short, you don’t get to enjoy it for very long as it is.”

According to Kyle Azzam, a store manager at Target in Reno, storage is key. “There are so many different kind of containers that staying organized is easy. “You can really buy containers that will also add decorating to your dorm.”

Know the rules. This will help you determine the kind of stuff you can bring in your dorm. Try and find out if there are any specific rules when it comes to refrigerator sizes and the like.

If you will be having a roommate, coordinate with them as soon as you can. You can then decide who brings what and lessen your burden.

For many mums and wives, the kitchen is one of the places you spend most of your time in. No doubt, you want this part of your home too to be classy. Here are four ideas when it comes to interior decorating your kitchen.

These are most appealing to the younger generation who want their homes to have that professional, modern look to it. Red and black is always a striking combination that you can try out. Having a bar section included will also give you the chance to socialize as you prepare your meals.

In developing this kitchen, project architects put the utility in a nice form and moderate budget. The small kitchen is always a challenge; it must reconcile the mandatory program to individual requirements. Conversations in the kitchen are the most interesting. Therefore it is open to new ideas and unusual.

Contemporary kitchen design

If you are one of those who rents an apartment, you will find this design most practical. With the light weight shelves, moving will not be a problem.

Interior Decorating and Photostyling

Posted by Jade Martins on Dec-20-2010

I read an interesting article earlier on the Blulabel Bungalow which contained interesting photostyling tips from Annette Joseph. To those that don’t know what photostyling is, it’s the art of styling a room to look its best when photographed.  Those photos you see on home decorating magazines? Well, those are some perfect examples of photostyled rooms.

These tips were pretty interesting but I got to thinking, if I took those photostyling tips and applied them to my own interior design, would it work?  Well, I’m trying those tips out to see if making the rooms photogenic will actually make them comfortable to use.

Here are some of the tips that Annette Joseph shared:

Photograph your rooms in slices. Looking at your room in a photograph gives you a more objective view of the room.

When photographing multiple room, use a color thread throughout each space to make the photo story come together.

Less is More.

There are a lot more tips that she shared and I think that they’re actually pretty useful in real life applications of interior decorating.
