Help! I need decorating ideas for my bedroom?

Posted by Jade Martins on Mar-29-2010

I’m moving into a new bedroom in my house and I have no idea how to decorate. This room has to last me for the next three or four years, until I’m done with college and move out. It’s a medium size room and I’m not working with any major design obstacles. I don’t like really big surfaces of bright colors in a bedroom, but I don’t mind little pops of a bright color. I’m pretty sure I’m going with this bedding set http://www.target.com/Modern-Home-Flocked-Leaf-Comforter/dp/B000Q5TC76 with white sheets. I’m also considering painting my walls a color similar to these curtains http://www.target.com/Home-Faux-Silk-Window-Panel/dp/B0027EYT36/ref=sc_pd_gwb_1_title

So here are things I need advice on:
-whether or not to go with that wall color
-color of the carpet i should buy (we have to replace it anyway, the rug in there is old)
-if a red throw blanket at the end of my bed would be able to fit with the wall color
-what kind of window coverings i should get (there are two windows, each on a different wall, but only one is usable because the other has an ugly view of the back porch so you have to keep the curtains closed)

So please give me any fun ideas you can think of… I was also thinking about putting orange Christmas lights around my closet door because I like the kind of glow orange lighting gives at night.

Also, how can I make my walls not boring? Right now I only have one photograph, which is this one http://www.art.com/products/p13586733-sa-i2381289/marilyn-monroe.htm?sorig=cat&sorigid=0&dimvals=0&ui=191c65742c764927959d3aac9e84e2cb&searchstring=marilyn+monroe
but I’m pretty sure I’m going to buy this as well http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=41300129

Thanks for any ideas you can give me. By the way, I’m not a very crafty person so nothing too challenging in that area haha.

1] wine with black, gray, and red? NO, too dark; and the wine will clash with the red.
Mybe paint walls red to match throw; or one red, rest white/off white
2] a light neutral – gray or beige
3] see #1
4] black lace,
gray sheers,
solid black, or gray

I need some help on ideas for decorating my camping tent?

Posted by Jade Martins on Mar-23-2010

We camp a lot in a big group. This time around we are having a curb appeal contest. We will be judged on the creativity of decorating our tents making them feel like home and we have to bring the stuff with us. We can not use things from the camp site. I just need some ideas. Keep in mind I my most available power source is batteries and propane.

Definitely bring a couple of cute dishtowels to hang up as curtains in the mesh "window", if your tent has one. (You can "sell" the idea that they are curtains by tying them back with a sash.) Also, look for the plastic lattice segments that people put around flower beds; it will look like a mini picket fence. While you’re at it, a few potted plants and flowers could go in your "yard". Make a "deck" with a few wooden boards (or vinyl imitation boards) and set out a couple of lawn chairs with a plastic table. A couple of fancy-looking drinks with paper umbrellas could brighten that table. A set of horseshoes or bocce balls will make the "lawn" look lived-in.

All of that is relatively cheap, not too heavy or bulky, and won’t need any juice from your batteries. If you want to use something battery-powered, I would get one of those camp lamps that looks like a miniature table lamp, complete with lampshade. Put it on a table inside the tent, where it can be seen through the mesh window.

I purchased a couple of wedding gowns with elaborate trains to decorate my home with. I would love to hear your suggestions (and directions for use! : ) I am quite handy with a sewing machine. I also purchased a few beautiful veils to use as canopies around my bed and my guestroom bed.

Canopies, cushion covers, table cloths or runners, curtains or blinds, bedspreads or runners, pillow cases. Anything that you would normally buy fabric for. If there are some nice lace or embroidered panels they can look good on table tops, dressing tables or bedside cabinets, overlaid with a piece of glass.
My friend, who is excellent with a sewing machine, once turned a rummage sale gown into a stunning silk dressing gown!

Home Decorating Ideas?

My Fiance and I recently purchased our first home together, but I’m having serious trouble when it comes to decorating it. I have the kitchen, dinning room, and guest bedrooms taken care of, but I am completely stumped when it comes to decorating my living room and master bedroom. Both the living and the master are neutral colored, earth tones, with a beige/off-white carpet, so I was hoping to stay in the more neutral color pallet with accent pillows for color? I don’t like the really plushy look, and my Fiance and I both want a more modern/contemporary look/feel, but neither of us want the metal frames. I guess a sleek look? Young maybe? We don’t want our friends coming over feeling like they’ve walked into Grandma’s house. For our bedroom we really wanted a ‘zen’ theme. Simplistic, Asian-style, blacks with red accent maybe? We’ve an opening above the door leading from the master bedroom to the master bath that we’d like to play off of. (It looks like those arches at Japanese temples).

Any suggestions on how I can decorate these two rooms? Wall art, furniture, bedspreads, etc.

I would try and stick with one theme if possible, and then go from there. If you both want a japanese look, black simple furniture sounds good to me. I would then pick no more than 3 base colors to use within each room, (ex. black, white, red). You can add a lot more of little accent colors through out after you decide on the main colors. If you are looking for art, try etsy.com. Type in the search what it is that you are looking for, (japanese, zen, etc). You can even request custom items. Any department store should have a solid color bed comforter set at a decent price. Good luck!

Unique Home Decor – Thinking Outside The Box

Making your home uniquely yours

Home accents and surroundings today offer much more opportunity for self expression. Don’t be afraid to try something different. I’d rather decorate my home with items that appeal to my own individuality, than adhere to someone’s standards of what is the norm. Artisan crafted products truly create the ability to make one’s castle their own. It is our hope that by providing you with suggestions and ideas, we are encouraging you to enhance your home in a style befitting your distinctive personality.

The charm of artisan crafted items is in the originality it provides. Imagine decorating your bathroom in tropical decor, accented by a hand painted shower curtain. The bathroom is the one room that is often overlooked, but it need not be. Add an artistic designed mirror that reflects your unique persona. One of the most exciting changes you can make to a bathroom is the addition of a distinctive toilet seat. Believe it or not, there are many design possibilities.

Decoupage is a popular craft that turns ordinary items into incredible works of art. A simple glass bowl becomes a cherished heirloom. You can turn a tray or platter into a relative’s favorite gift. The possibilities are limitless, and the works created are quite stunning.

Lighting is another outstanding way to set your rooms off. Don’t be afraid to add color. Versatile and vibrant, lamps are stylish accents that can turn a whole room around without much effort. Lighting comes in many different shapes and sizes for table, floor, and ceiling. There are many options and you are only limited by your imagination. It’s a simple change that can make a dramatic change.

Don’t forget your walls! Everyone has paintings and photos adorning their walls. Be different, add a piece of metal wall art. There are patterns available for everyone’s taste, so don’t be shy. Try something new and out of the ordinary. Like the title says, don’t be afraid to step out of the box. You’ll be rewarded with a home that is a representation of your unique personality.

Last, but not least, simple accessories provide the finishing touch to your unique home. The small things sometimes make the most difference.

Switchplates
There are many different types of switchplates that can perk up a room while keeping within theme.

Picture Frames
Picture frames have become very popular over the past several years and there are literally thousands of designs to choose from.

Clocks
We can’t forget a very simple, yet important addition to every home in the world. Everyone needs a clock, but it doesn’t have to be your average run of the mill clock. Don’t settle for dull and boring, when you can have unique and striking in appearance.

Hand Painted Mailboxes
Another simple but profound change you can make is with the addition of a hand painted mailbox. Today, you can get a mailbox custom painted in any design you desire.

There are many more accents which seem subtle, but really play an important role when decorating your home. We must not forget the many styles of mirrors, outlet covers, fans and more. The possibilities really are limitless. It is our mission to impart to everyone, don’t settle for ordinary, when you yourself are extraordinary.
