It’s the New Year and Katie from What Katie Does shares to her readers some lovely color combinations that you can use for interior decorating. Since both yellow and gray are subtle colors, they accentuate each other perfectly giving you that sense of comfort and warmth that isn’t usually there in other color combinations.

Even the cat loves the subtle color combinations!  Both colors are again used on the curtains which also add that feeling of warmth and home-ness to the room.

Red, Red, Red!

Posted by Jade Martins on Dec-29-2010

Elle Decor magazine has just posted a trend alert.  That alert is the color red! That’s right folks, no muted colors here, no strange color combinations, just pure and unadulterated red!

From cloth to the rugs, to the floor, walls and even the furniture, the new color for 2011 is red.

It’s a pretty nice color setup if you manage to pull it off correctly.  Since it’s a base color, a solid shade will probably be your best bet when home decorating with this idea.

Every room in the house can benefit from a splash of the color, even in the bathroom, your dispensers can come in the bright color themselves.

Cozy and Stylish – The Best of Both Worlds

Posted by Jade Martins on Dec-22-2010

Who says that you can’t be cozy and stylish at the same time?  A lot of interior designers nowadays sacrifice one over the other. Comfort is being thrown aside in favor of more cutting edge designs and sharper edges. It takes a lot of skill to pull off home decorating that incorporates both comfort and style properly.  Caroline Wilkes explains that comfort is not only the feeling of the actual furniture but also how it “feels” visually.

The main tip that was given to give this sense of comfort would be to use soft colors and soft lighting.  Try to avoid overly bright colors and harsh light as this would add to the feeling of the room being too stiff and formal. Another piece of advice was to personalize the room with soothing textures and your favorite accessories.  A cozy room means that you should feel good every time you’re in the room so try and surround yourself with things that will help you feel more in comfort.

Home Interior Color Forecast for 2011

Posted by Jade Martins on Dec-22-2010

The new year is upon us and the choice of which colors to choose after taking down the Christmas decor is always a question on everyone’s minds. WicketLocal Arlington has posted a color trend forecast for 2011 if you’re out of ideas on which home decorating colors to choose from.

The trend palettes are Worn, Rebirth, Wonder, Functionality and Abyss. The worn palette focuses more on comfort and this has been used over the years in earth tones and so forth.  Rebirth comes from rich saturated colors that are nature inspired like greens and warm golds. Wonder encompasses shades like bright fuchsia, deep blue and cheery aqua balanced by green.  Functionality is basically solid tones coupled with simple designs. The final palette, which is Abyss, is a new addition for 2011 incorporating dull grays and blacks as the main colors and nothing else.

Interior Design Colors – Contrast, Contrast, Contrast!

Posted by Jade Martins on Dec-22-2010

The easiest way to make your interior visually appealing is to add contrast.  This is achieved by mixing together light tones and dark solid colors together.  The simplest way to do this would be to pick a light color as a base and add darker colors as an accent.  If you have a light-colored sofa then your best bet to add contrast would be to pick throw pillows that are dark. By using this simple strategy all around your room, you’re making the colors pop and therefore giving an overall visual appeal that can’t be achieved by blending in similar colors.

When redecorating, it’s also easier to pick colors because you’ll usually start off with a coating of something light-colored. Picking a contrasting color is always a lot easier than picking a shade that goes well with your base.

Intense Colors Seen in Home Decorating Scene for 2011

Posted by Jade Martins on Dec-22-2010

Decorating Den is reporting that for 2011, the new trends will border on more intense colors and styles.  Out goes the rustic earth tones and make way for bright colors or dark blacks.  Brown is out with gray replacing it in bleached pieces accented with bright colors.

“Many of the new trends from High Point will translate easily into the southwest Florida lifestyle,” said partner Cliff Welles, ASID. “One new piece of furniture or a fashionable accessory can update a whole room.”

While earth tones are still acceptable, most designers will now add brash and bright accents to give it more of that contemporary feel. With the new year just over the horizon, we’re sure to see a lot more designs and examples popping up right just before the new year starts.
