Venus Williams Swings, and misses in Home Decorating

Posted by Jade Martins on Jan-28-2011

Not satisfied as being one of the world’s most powerful women, Venus Williams, tennis superstar, also considers herself to be a good interior decorator. Heading up her own firm called V Star which was mired with difficulties from the start when Williams claimed that she was a certified interior decorator. Of course that part now has been taken out of the company’s literature and all they promise now if you take their services is a guaranteed meeting with the superstar herself.

Their designs well… they’re quite unique but not as excellent as her tennis skills. These are some photos taken from the company’s design portfolio.

New Year Budget Decorating Resolution

Posted by Jade Martins on Dec-29-2010

It’s the new year, time for new decorations and new budget constraints.  Good thing we have these home decorating on a budget tips that will save you some money (and time!) this coming new year.

Tip 1:

Get more storage space by getting Casters.  Casters allow your trays and crates to move around giving you room whenever you need it. Attach to a crate and you have a mobile storage unit that you can roll underneath a counter when not in use.

Tip 2:

Make your own display shelf for your toiletries by using a wooden box and creating shelves to fit inside the box.  Glam up the box with some decorations and a decent frame and you have yourself some instant storage space.

Tip 3:

Decorate your wall with… anything! You can get antique wall frames from flea markets for under $5.  Frame some extra plates and stuff for that modern home decorating look.

De-Clutter your Homes

Posted by Jade Martins on Dec-29-2010

Sometimes the best home decorating tip can be one of de-cluttering.  You don’t have to do a whole renovation just to have a fresh look in your home, just take out some of the old stuff and move some furniture around.

The best time to do this “de-cluttering” is right after the holiday season as you’re clearing out the Christmas decor. Since you already packing stuff away then why not do away with everything else that’s just lying around gathering dust and not being of any use.

The first thing you need to get rid of are those old magazines. Be realistic, if you haven’t read them by now, you’ll never get around to reading them. The same goes with books, old books are nice, but if they don’t have any practical use, donate them to someone who needs them.

After getting rid of those magazines, think of rearranging your furniture. A new layout can work wonders on space management.

Of course, you’ll need to have a plan for all of this. I’d suggest taking an hour off and write down everything that you need to do.

Home Decorating – How to Decorate a Home with a View

Posted by Jade Martins on Dec-29-2010

So you just got high-rise condo with an excellent view have you? Well, worry not, home decorating a room with a view is a lot easier than it sounds like.

The first thing that you need to consider when home decorating a condo with a view is to take in the surrounding view and build on that. Your color choices should be a little bit on the neutral side because the view and the skyline already provides you with vivid colors and you want to add a bit of contrast.

Before deciding on a final color, hang a couple of panels of your chosen color on the wall and observe how the light works on those colors.  What may look great in the morning might not work in the afternoon or evening.  Pick the color that works best with the light no matter what time of day it is.

As for the actual decor, just stay away from big box brands.  You wouldn’t want to spoil your million dollar view with generic stuff that everyone else has. Your pieces should reflect your inner personality and not those of big name design.

Steps to Take to Complete Those Home Decorating Projects

Posted by Jade Martins on Dec-24-2010

Some of us tackle home decorating projects and never get around to finishing it because we don’t have a plan.  Some will think that it’s as simple as buying stuff and then placing them where we want to.  That’s an overly simplified view of things but when you’re doing something big, keep these steps in mind so that you can complete the home decorating project without straying.

1. Nothing gets done in a day – Accept this as a fact and you can save yourself the rush of trying to finish everything all at once.

2. Remain flexible – plans can change, so should you.

3. Make a list – if you have multiple projects, make a list, prioritize and go through them one at a time.

4. Write down what it is you need to get done – Be as detailed as possible so that you’ll know where you’re at when you need to check.

5. Know how much things cost – Knowing that you can afford the paint or supplies will help a lot.
