what is the best home design software?

Posted by Jade Martins on Aug-25-2010

ok, so anyone who is experienced in architectural software, im looking for software in which i can design my dream home, and even decorate the interior and exterior, anyone have experience? if so, please share, i dont want to buy a really bad one where it doesnt do much good. thanks

Of course this will be my own Extremly biased opinion but oh well, here goes. I think google sketchup7 is the best because you can measure stuff, create infinite storys, and even create your own furniture. Unfortanatly it is extremly difficult. I forgot the name of this good one, but it’s limited to 2 stories. What I would do would be talk to some professional archtechts, ask them what program they use and tell them your situation. They’ll have a couple good ones for you, and you can claim you talked to an architecht. It may not sound really cool if you think about it, but if you say it really fast to your friends maybe.. but oh well! I know another REALLY good one too.. Its called pen and paper :) lol really im not kidding. But theres my choices from an architecht wana be so, there ya go!

  1. Emily Yanez Said,

    Hi,

I’ve been using Google SketchUp for some amateurish interior/exterior designs.
I use it to display what I want contractors to visually see how I want things to be

  4. Victor Said,

The hidden truth of the "Home Design Software Market" is that there are literally 100′s of different programs that are all designed to appeal to and meet the needs of subtle user niches.

Do a search of Amazon for Home Design Software and you will see all most all software reviewed the same way – some 5 star fans and some 1 star dont waste your money comments

Which is entirely counter intuitive one would expect some products to get good reviews and some products to get bad reviews right ?

Well the reason this happens is the needs and expectations of users vary so widely that a lot of mismatching occurs, I have tried almost every product out there and they are all "good" when you match the right application to the right user.

The questions you need to answer before you can make a decision include.

1, What are your expectations – are you looking for a professional design suite or do you want to knock out a quick dirty floorplan.

2, What is your experience level ?

3, How much to want to pay ? What about upgrades and support ?

4, How much time are you prepared to invest in learning the software ?

I would agree with the other comments that sketchup.com is a great product but there is a real facebook page dedicated to people that think it sucks – its the same product different customers

Starting to see my point ?

Anyway if you looking for something free and simple check out http://www.visualsupercomputing.com

I have used Chief Architect as well as Punch.

I would recommend Chief Architect highly. They have a very good website with great information & video tutorials:

What is more, it is #1 Bestseller on Amazon Home Design software category:

Chief Architect Home Designer Suite 9.0
