decorating the home, colors?

Posted by Jade Martins on Feb-22-2010

been slowly working on re-doing my trailer’s living room. I’m going with shades of brown/tan and dark red theme. I uploaded some new photos to my photobucket album showing a new entertainment center and some new pillows. Got to thinking about colors and I wondered how much it mattered if the colors matched? (for instance in my case, the maroon pillows on my loveseat aren’t exactly the same shade as what’s on the edge of my bar and when buying new curtains they likely won’t be the same exact color either)….so my question is then, does it matter if the colors aren’t exact matches?

Gina, thanks for the reply; it doesn’t bother me that they don’t match, I just wondered if that was a no-no when it comes to decorating.

It’s never good when everything matches! If it concerns you…go to a fabric store and find a fabric that has ALL the shades and use it for floor and couch pillows! That will tie it all together. Do this last…it’ll work!

14th B-day, party game ideas… anyone? Please?

Posted by Jade Martins on Feb-22-2010

So my 14th birthday is around the corner and I have very little idea what I’m going to do, no games come to mind! I desperately need games!!

My house is small, but the downstairs is fairly open. We’re not allowed upstairs during parties because it’s small and my brothers’ rooms are too close to my own for courtesy.

The only other circumstance is to try to avoid my grump-munster bros (and my dad -but the whole time he‘ll probably be building something or sleeping for his work (nightshift, luckily). (around five to seven 13/14 year old girls running around, maybe my friend Matt, (but Matt’s gay [literally, not jerkish insult] so it’s not going to waver anything, he’ll be going home before the sleepover itself, assuming he attends)
So far, I know this will be going on:
1. —It’s a slumber party, we’ll crash all over the T.V/living room.
2. ——During the day we’ll have the first two Twilight Saga films playing for a few hours, but afterwards we’re going to have a continuous marathon of lame horror vampire movies. (captions, no sound, it’s mostly for people not enjoying the particular game)
3.—–We’re probably going to do makeovers.
4.— Only healthy snacks, and that’s already planned as far as my mom says. No candy (I’m getting braces in march). No cake, but awesome decorated cupcakes (in case that sparks inspiration)
5—-I know I’ll have a ton of music, letting the guests send me individual playlists so everyone gets what they like.
6—- I’m a June baby, so we might be going outside, but it’s not likely because it’s usually buggy and hot. No pool, no trampoline, only a small wooden play-gym and open space for about 12 feet by 10 feet. No pool party, and no lual because my mom doesn’t want to spend too much money.
7—- I live in inland CT, so a three hour drive to the beach is out of the question :’(

But other than those ideas, I have to find a way to fill 48 hours with very entertaining activities that girls (and a feminine guy for about a quarter of that time) can play and be entertained by.

Well, thats alot if info….which makes it harder to plan a party! Well at my friends birthday, we did blind folded makeovers..and im close to your age soo it was fun. Maybe you can have ur parents by icecream stuff to make sundaes..we also made homemade ice cream…look on the internet. We alo played kick the can at like 3 in the morning outside. It doesnt really matter if its hot and buggy…you could find ANYTHING to do outside. I know you didnt want to spend TONS of money..but you could borrow a trampoline from the neighbors or something if they have 1. There is always ways to negotation. You could have a water balloon fight! Well thats all I got, enjoy your party! Hope I helped somehow:)

Best of Luck!

Here in my small town only 2 to 3 out of 5 people have decorations up for christmas…is this like it in your town? Why has the number of them decreased?

alot of people are out of the Christmas spirit because of financial issues. plus putting lights up just makes your electric bill sky rocket.

Does anyone know some military Christmas traditions?

Posted by Jade Martins on Feb-21-2010

I am trying to get some Christmas traditions together for some military families that have loved ones in Iraq and was hoping that someone would know of some military ones. I know that you are to leave the Christmas tree up until they get home. But that is the extent of what I know. Thank you!

The Officers would often serve dinner to the troops. It is rather traditional.

The Black Friday / day after Thanksgiving tree lighting is no more. This year, the tree lighting will be on Nov 25, the day before Thanksgiving. The activities begin at 4PM and the actually tree lighting will be at 4:30PM.

When do you light your Christmas tree, and when do you keep the lights plugged in? Do you leave it plugged in all night? When do you remove your tree? If it matters, assume that your tree is artificial, flame retardant, and that you are using mini lights.

I only have my tree lit at night and always unplugged it before I go to bed just to be safe. I take my tree down after xmas but before new year so I start out the new year with a clean house and no last years mess . If you’re planning a new years eve party though, you might want to leave it up till after the party’s over.
