Decorating ideas for new home?

Posted by Jade Martins on Feb-17-2010

My husband and I bought our first house, It is finally done being built and we are ready to move in to it. I need some suggestions though. Currently the house is a tannetural color through out with crisp white moldings and doors. I was thinking of painting maybe 1 wall in my kitchen a deep brownish red color, and 1 wall in my living room where the fireplace a darker brown…here are the pics, i know the front yard needs landscaped, I havent had time to do it yet they just finished building the house this week.

ooops its supposed to be tan neutral color
would it be too much to paint my whole kitchen the red ?

i LOVE your new house, its so cute. Congrats!! As for the colors I would paint the kitchen the red you want, it would pop nice against the bright crisp white trim and do the living room in a brownish tan color that will look great against the red… love love love your color choices!!!

  1. Leesa Said,

Congratulations on becoming a home owner!

A lot of people like the all beige walls, but I personally love color. I would definitely do accent walls in darker tones to mix things up and keep the house from looking too "vanilla".

  2. Rodeo Said,

It seems to me that the best idea would be to stick with earth tones, i think the living room (or what ever you make the room with the fireplace) would look amazing in a "bamboo" color. its much like light tan with some gray hues, it allows for a warm look while maintaining a bright touch. Another good idea to think about is to paint to opposite walls in a darker color, maybe the brown red you were thinking about which gives the room a unique shadow and creats a cozy feeling
    throughout.

If you wanted to paint your kitchen red i would recomend only painting the trim of the cabinets red (everything minus the doors) poss. keep them in a white. and find a light color for the walls, that would give it a beautiful country look, i recently painted my kitchen in just such a fashion and it looks great.
