Your best Christmas traditions?

Posted by Jade Martins on Feb-6-2010

Greetings,

Some mummy friends and I are brainstorming ideas to begin some Christmas traditions with 1 year olds. Something(s) that will be do-able each year (anything too complicated/time/labor intensive will just wind up being stressful someday). . . .we would love to hear any ideas from your childhood/your lives now/ideas for the future. . .

We’ve already considered the traditional ideas…a new Christmas ornament every year, reading a special story, baking cookinge, deocorating ginger bread houses, picture taking, caroling, etc.

Seeking your unique take or something altogether different, fun and memorable.

Tx-in-advance….Happy Holidays!
Of course we’ll put out cookies for Santa and reindeer food out for his reindeer. Santa will be ringing bells outside our daughter’s window too…

When they get old enough to write, a journal about how xmas made them feel.
A creative, imaginative story that takes a different shape every year but still embodies a consistent premise and possibly lead character…
food assocations with xmas are priceless (cookies, jam tarts..hmm yummy)…
possible A Christmas Story viewing each year :)
A particular hat, that hopefully they will love that you can possibly limit to once a year (until they get excited 3 months before xmas!!)
a sock puppet show (you can do alot with a little)…
having a fire with crackling wood on xmas eve when it is cold…
making a home-made movie, complete with props, great screenplay, lead actresses, directors, producers, the whole shabang!
happy holidays to you too..

  1. Mel G Said,

It sounds strange, but every year we all put clementines in each others stockings. One year my mother forgot, and even though its silly, it was a big deal.

Teaching your children the true meaning of xmas. Adopting a family that is truly needy and purchasing gifts for that family. We have made this a xmas tradition since are children where young. They picked out presents helped wrap and deliver. Now my kids are grown and they have started this with my grandchildren.
Its a wonderfull thing to teach your kids the joy of giving instead of always receiveing.
