Updating interior of rented home, on the cheap- tips needed?
Posted by Jade Martins on Jan-9-2010
I live in a rented house and want to update the living room on the cheap. It has a red carpet and curtians which I don’t want to replace. What is the most contemporary style to paint/decorate the walls and create a clean modern look that will go with the red soft furnishings? Any style tips to inspire modern design? I am taking my time to look for new ideas so hope to get some creative input here. Thanks.
Red carpet and drapes: Try a buttercream or darker paint. I have a red sofa and burgundy area rugs. Yellows and golden tans look great with red. The link below is a photo on hgtv’s site. Red walls with a buttercream colored fireplace so you can see the colors together.

Painting the walls and adding accessories is about all you can do. I would do a light coffee cream color and / or light taupe on the walls. Add pillows that include the red and wall colors.
