Home Design and Interior Decor Ideas

I have a lawn business, and I am thinking about doing Christmas decorations so my help has something to do during the off season. Do you know how much people are paying to have their homes decorated with Christmas decorations? Is there even a demand for this kind of service and for other holidays? Thank you for your input.

Well it really depends on how big the house, yard is and how much decorating is being done. I’m sure there’s LOTS of people that would rather have someone to the stringing for them – elderly people or just those that can afford the expense and would rather do other things with their time or just don’t want to be up on – or own – high ladders.

I have an accounting/bookkeeping biz and one of my clients is a window cleaner. During the holiday season, since he has the tall ladders needed to get up to roofs and employees that aren’t afraid of heights, he adds stringing lights on houses to his services. He just charges an hourly rate for the labor. If it’s just him doing the work then I believe he was only charging about $30 an hour. When he had several of his crew he’d charge quite a bit more since they obviously can get it done a lot quicker plus he has the expense of paying those people. I was going to have him come out and put lights on the upper eave of my house and gladly would have paid him $50 to do that even if it took less than an hour.

I mean I’ve heard things like make crafts, go see lights, and other COMMON traditions.
What are some other things me and him can enjoy doing/making together? haha no sick plz.

well u can both go to feeding programs, share gifts to orphans, or find those who are less fortunate to help, i think it would foster a much more meaningful bonding for you both, hope this helps, God Bless.

Store Holiday Decorations?

Posted by admin on Jan-31-2010

what are the most interesting/ pretty/ unique holiday decorations you’ve ever seen in a store? Please describe them. I just want to know…
The most interesting I saw: At one store, the door knob was an ornament, and if you touched it, it would play a Christmas carol. The rest of the store was filled with christmas lights.
i want as many answers as possible… this will be interesting

Last year there was a clothing store in the mall by my house that had the entire store decorated in white and silver snowflakes that sparkled. It was so pretty and they had decorated Christmas boxes piled up and through out the store. It really looked nice.

Hair Salon Christmas Tree Ornaments?

Posted by admin on Jan-31-2010

I am heading the Props crew for our schools production of Steel Magnolias. I need some interesting ideas on how to make Christmas Tree ornaments shaped like salon things (i.e. scissors, combs, chairs, magazines). Thank You!

Cardboard! Cut out the shapes you need then decorate them. You could also use old compacts, lip sticks, nail polishes, etc and tie a ribbon around the top or you could make scissors, combs, makeup etc from salt dough then paint them however you would like. Just make sure you poke a hole in the top before you bake them so you can hang them.

no, he isn’t.

Rewiring mini Christmas light sockets?

Posted by admin on Jan-31-2010

I have a 100 five way flasher light set and the last section of 20 bulbs don’t work due to the fact that the first socket of that section is completely missing with the wires exposed and with no socket. (found this set in the attic). I would normally throw the set out, but i can’t find this particular light set anymore and was wondering if its possible to simply cut out a socket from another set and rewire it in?
how would i be able to rewire the exposed wires into the socket? what do i need and how do i do it? thanks.

Hi, strip the insulation back and match wire-to-wire. This may be a matter of trail and error until you match all 5 wires to the same extension but when they are all connected the last section of 20 lights will work again as there is no break in the wires. All you need to do is wrap or twist (as long as they are connected) each wire to its corresponding wire. If it is a good set, there wires may be colour coded, but this in unlikely!

I need websites with pictures of christmas tree decorations and if it possible with tips to decor a christmas tree, but i’m more interested in the pics. thanks.

Hi!

I have to say that I now cheat and have a 12 foot PRE-LIT tree. It saves time and has over 1,000 lights perfectly placed. I decorate my tree in all white, gold, silver and clear glass ornaments. Makes for a striking look with all the white lights behind it.

Here are some sites:

Best to you!!

Small living room decorating questions?

Posted by admin on Jan-31-2010

My husband and I are closing on a home in 2 weeks, and I’m trying to figure out how to decorate the living area. It’s an odd, small area – Walk in the front door and its an oversize hallway more or less as the living room that L shapes to a small dining area that L shapes again to a dead end kitchen. So like a U shape with a wall between the kitchen and the living area.
It has light colored pergo flooring, and no high ceilings or skylights. And there is a pellet stove in the corner of the living area.
Since we wont have exra money, we have to keep our current furniture for the time being, which includes my husbands black leather couch and love seat.
The dining area and kitchen are going to have black wrought iron pieces (table/chairs and wall mounted pot rack).
With this information, do you have any tips on interior decoration? I need things to help make the room seem bigger, and tips on colors when our furniture is black and floor is light wood.

Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!

You should paint the whole area one color and make sure the color coordinates well with the kitchen. Lighter colors are better since they make small rooms bigger, but some median tones can work too. The precise color of the flooring and the kitchen cabinets matters.

Ideas:
Putnam Ivory
Tea Room
Squire Hill Bluff
Atmospheric
Pale Avocado
Soft Beige
Jicama
Abalone

I would definitely get a big black mirror to hang over the sofa. It will make the room look bigger. Something like these http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10121252 http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00081591
The proportions should be similar to this http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3207/2966948346_2e7652379d_o.jpg

Window treatments are a toughie- the sofa is black but black curtains are really heavy. I would probably pick a print based on the paint color. Something like one of these: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00160197 http://www.westelm.com/products/r801/?pkey=cwindow-panels-curtains-shades (this would only work with the grey or rose walls) http://www.crateandbarrel.com/family.aspx?c=1288&f=26869 (would work with the beige walls) Pick your paint and curtains together. The same color two shades darker would also work for curtains.
