I’m travelling to New York at the end of November 2009, will I get to see any Xmas decorations?

And is there any shops for bargains at this time of year?
After Thanksgiving (and even before, frankly) Christmas decorations go up. Macy’s traditionally is decorated for Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving). You should definitely pop into Macy’s at Herald Square: it’s very impressive at that time of year. "Black Friday" is also traditionally a huge day for big sales.
The tree in Rockefeller Center will be up, but it won’t be lit until December 3rd this year.
You start seeing Xmas decorations right after Halloween these days, but the major stuff in NYC tends to wait until right after Thanksgiving.
There will be plenty for you to see. Enjoy!

The tree in Rockafeller Center might be up by then. Too early for christmas decorations however.

Yes! After Black Friday, the stores (and malls) will put up their decorations.
For shopping ideas on Black Friday, please see below which includes coupons.

Do not forget to carry a nice small luggage set with you that has wheels. It will make walking from store to store easier by pulling the luggage set with one hand than having both hands full with bags.

If it’s after Thanksgiving, then YES… for sure. People are here start getting ready for Christmas as soon as it turns midnight the Friday after Thanksgiving. Check out Rockefeller Center, 5th Ave., and Central Park for a good time.
Have fun!
