   We used to have one at my grandmas house… where after dinner everyone would do a secret santa, have a wrapping paper fight, then the adults would do their gift swap game while us kids would go play games

   We stopped since we can’t afford to buy everyone stuff, but it was fun

   My family’s Christmas traditions have similarities and differences to yours but for mine we trim the tree, hang up stockings, put other kinds of decorations around the house, bake Christmas cookies, and then for Christmas Eve my grandmother on my fathers side throws a Christmas party for all of the family until like 9:00 to 9:30 and then we go home and everyone gets ready to go to sleep and my parents get things ready for Christmas Day then on Christmas Day everyone opens up their presents then we all have breakfast (usually pancakes or french toast with bacon and orange juice yum) then everyone pretty much hangs out with each other.

   We play white elephant. It’s a VERY fun game. Everyone in the extended family buys a gift $10 and under and then puts it in a big pile in the middle of the room. Then we each take turns rolling a pair of dice and whoever rolls doubles gets to pick a present from the pile…..we do this until all the presents are gone. Then we set a timer for 5 minutes and we again take turns rolling the dice. This time, whoever rolls doubles gets to take a present from someone else. After the 5 minutes is up, you get to open whatever you’re left with. It’s all in good fun and everybody usually just buys some silly gag gift or something. It’s always a good laugh!

   christmas eve, my family goes out to olive garden at about 6, then we go to see a movie and after that we visit the local shrine to look at the christmas lights. when we get home, my sister and i exchange presents with a fire in the fire place. we then go to midnight mass and come home and go to bed. on christmas morning, we all wake up at about 8 and open presents, then get ready to go to my grandma’s for lunch, and after that we go to my other grandma’s for a huge christmas dinner with the whole family.

   Yours sounds lovely. BTW, I’m making scotch eggs for the first time over the holidays – they have always sounded so good!

   We celebrate Christmas Eve, according to our Ukrainian cultural traditions. We fast all day, I do most of the food prep. Traditionally there are 12 meatless dishes, but this year there are just the three of us, so we are just doing the favourites – baked fish, cabbage rolls, perogies, and some assorted side dishes. The meal begins when the first star in the sky is sighted. We sing a traditional Ukrainian carol as our prayer before the meal. We sing again after the meal, many carols. Then we open gifts. Often family members come over to carol, and we go to their home – kids get gifts. Then on to Liturgy which ends just after midnight.
   We have kept Christmas Day strictly as a day for ourselves, veg out basically.
   Growing up, and until my parents died, we had really big Christmas celebrations (there are six of us kids), but since then, we’ve kind of gone our own ways. We try to see one another over the holidays, though.

   Either before or the day after Thanksgiving(this yr the week before), we put up the tree while a christmas movie usually plays. decorate it.
   christmas eve, me and my sis usually make sugar cookies and decorate them with fun colored icings. we hang around the house being lazy and such watching christmas movies. towards the evening, we go pick out 4 or so movies to rent and pick up Pizza Hut. Then my family and my sister’s future husband all gather and read from the Bible in Luke and anywhere else explaining Jesus’s birth. then we pop in a movie and dig into the pizza. we usually watch at least 2 movies, and after pizza we eat red velvet cake.
   christmas morning we wake up early(depends how early me and my sis wake up), then we wait for my dad to set the extra surprises up and then go in to open pressies. :]
   this yr we’ll be eating lunch at my uncle’s house around 1, but usually we hang around the house after presents and mess with our new stuff and then that night eat dinner at a relative’s house.
   I’m just excited cuz i am spoiling my kitties :]

   btw, i am 17 and my sister 20. my dad still spoils us like crazy, even tho we’re spose to be on a budget. he does it cuz he doesn’t spoil us throughout the yr or get us anything other than essentials.

   we make treats like pie, cookies, fudge. Then on christmas eve, we go around and drive to look at peoples christmas lights. we also put our tree together. Lol, it takes 7 hours just to put lights and ornaments on it. Then we sit down and watch a christmas movie. Christmas is my favorite time of year, and always will be. Merry Chrhaunkwasa. Thats my way of saying merry christmas, haunakaa, and kwansa.

[which probably wont happen this year.. :[] we go home we open a present we all just talk then we wake up and open presents and taker pictures and listen to christmas music and eat breakfast. :] then we would go to my grandmas house where all the family would be. :] we would open presents then all the kids would go outside and play with all the new presents and toys and everything :] its always a sunny christmas here :]. i remember just outside in the streets and sidewalks and everything running around skating in our new skates and everything :] ohh wow good times.. i wish that could still happen.. they moved this summerr. :[ first christmas with just me my mom,dad, and 2 brothers.
