Decorating color help needed, new home?
My husband and I just purchased our first house (yay us!!) Anyway I need some advice on paint colors. The looks I like are "country" , Italian, and southwestern ( since we are stationed in Oklahoma). I would love red in my kitchen, but not sure if it would look right and if I should do the whole kitchen, half or just a focal wall. I have included pics of some of my issue rooms. Im open to any suggestions on color for the rooms.
This is the Kitchen

I just did a mossy green in my country kitchen and did the (Home Depot) Behr Bellegio Faux finish over it…it looked excellent! My Kitchen is in Roosters BTW…
With the green…

With the Faux finish over the green….

As far as the living room…stick to Earth tones…beiges, greens, berries…you want it to be warm & inviting…I would add more wood trims….do you have a theme now? You could find a border you LOVE and pull color inspiration for it aswell… Good luck!!
P.S. GORGEOUS HOUSE!!
) Congrats!!
you have a blank canvas there. Paint it any colours you like/want.
Get some of the small tester pots and paint a few patches of different colours on the wall to see what they look like.
Enjoy your new home

You have an amzing house! I love your italian idea for the kitchen and I think you should do beise (I don’t know how to spell it) for the sunroom. I know that sounds kind of boring but with an open room like that a light color would make it look bigger and brighter and happier. And since your an army wife I know you worry a lot so you need a place that will make you happy and smile
Good Luck and I’ll pray for your husband

I have kitchen with white/off white cabinets as well!
It looks like you have tile – and very little wall to paint – so you could go with red. (too much red in a room makes me feel agitated – but that’s just me.) I love a blue and white kitchen – that’s very calming! You could add touches of yellow or sage green. That’s very netural.
As for the other rooms, I would go with one warm color – a yellow based beige that’ s very neutral – esp. if all the rooms connect in some way!
Congrats on your first home!

My mum just decorated her house, she wanted a red kitchen too but the decorator told her that she would get fed up with red very easily, so they chose a bright orange instead and it looks great now, though not all the kitchen is on that color, the floor is beige, and some furniture too, with a printed paper on the walls and white cupboards.

Some years ago, a friend of mine used red in her kitchen- And it looked fantastic! But she used other colors too to tone it down so it wouldn’t wallop her.
By all means, do the Italian/Southwestern themes in your house! It could carry that color very well indeed!
And congratulations on your purchase!
Good luck!

If your not sure about the paint color, try using red as a main accent.
Things like a small valance or other window treatment with a rich red will add warmth to what looks like a pretty bland kitchen. Then bring the red color on down to the cabinets with a few bowls, or even red apples in an attractive container. You may want to add a secondary color also such as a dark gold or sage green. The area above the oven is begging for a WOW item that will bring your eye up, and then consider a few throw rugs in front of the sink or stove to save your feet when you stand at these two main task areas, and this will also bring the kitchen together as a unit bringing harmonizing color from near ceiling (above oven) to the floor (throw rugs). Also you might try putting a small light on the counter in the corner. Leaving this light on with a small watt bulb will allow a glow of charm without the harshness of the bright light that you need when cooking. You may still want to paint, but these are a few ideas that will add color without being so overpowering. You may want to check with family or friends about red things that they have, that they would be willing to part with, that would not only give you color but also make this new house your HOME. You can then bring that same red accent into the living room through pillows or rugs. This will allow flow through out the house without limiting you to a locked in color. A center piece in the dinning area played up in the red tones or placemats will continue the color and you can really use different secondary colors in each room. The red theme will pull each room together. The sunroom should deffinately remain light in color with only a slight play on the red. You already have your own nature palet to work off of there. Experiment with different colors to see what will really work best for you. Again, family and friends are great rescouces. Ask to borrow a few things with the colors you like, then see how you really like them in your home. What looks good in other homes may not work in yours. You can judge if you are going to like florals in the living room and stripes in the dinning room befor you make your purchases. Decorating doesn’t have to be expencive, but it does need you be you.

Suggestions:
1] pick your fave color, his, and one you both like – say red/blue/green.
Example: Do the kitchen with red accents or wall, with a tiny bit of blue ; the living room in blues; the dining room in blues with tiny bits of red [ apples in a blue bowl? ]; and the sunroom in greens with a bit of blue.
2] LR- could paint walls, or add wall art, drapes, rug, pillows, lamps/shades, ornaments, vase/planter/flower pots, plants, candles/holders.
3] DR – walls, art, drapes, rug, table runner, bowl, candles/holders
4] Sunroom – treat as family room, exercise room, office, etc. See LR
5] kitchen – wall[s], curtains, small appliances, canisters, cookie jar or other objects on counter; placemats, potholders, trivets, dishrack, towels.
6] try to buy/use the same metals [ silver [ chrome] or gold [ brass ] throughout your home. [ mirrors, pic frames, lamps or candlesticks, etc. ]
7] any pics framed in wood will work if they are similar shades – light woods, mid tone, dark woods – throughout your home.
CONGRATULATIONS!
Have fun! [ send pics if you can ]
