Is it to soon to put up christmas decor?
Posted by Jade Martins on Dec-2-2009
We have been bumed out. Do you think the thing about bad luck is true must we wait till thanksgiving? Other than everyone who comes over thinking we are crazy what else could happen.
Mother of four and wife of one man whom thinks christmas early is great.
of course it is too early! What happened to celebrating Thanksgiving or Halloween? Why don’t you decorate for those before Christmas. The commercialism of Christmas is sickening. Don’t contribute to it…It’s not about decorating and presents…so many just believe that now..it’s about CHRIST AND HIS SACRIFICE FOR US!!

I live in England and we wouldn’t dream of putting up Christmas stuff until Dec. Its only Oct, I think this is too soon.

Just do a mix of Thanksgiving and Christmas decor in mid November. Let your kids enjoy Halloween first. lol

Too early. Wait until Thanksgiving.

If you want to put it up now then do that. Why does it matter what anyone else thinks? Never heard about bad luck regarding decorating, then again I’m not superstitious so even if I had heard it I wouldn’t pay any attention.

If you want to do it, who cares what anyone else thinks. The stores already have their Christmas stuff out. And there are people who leave their Christmas decorations out until February. So go ahead. Explain to people that you want to feel that Christmas joy for as long as you can. I’m sure you’ll get some smiles.

I concur it’s too soon but I can give you a less emotional and more practical reason. Trees turn brown, lights burn out, anything metal rusts, colors fade, etc, etc, etc. The longer the stuff is up, the worse it starts to look.
(We have just as much fun decorating for Halloween at our house, wouldn’t miss it!)

yeah,it puts you in the spirit during winter. we have halloween decor and Christmas decor which we keep in a very tightly packed closet. after we put the halloweenstuff away we get the christmas stuff right out, its easier than moving christmas stuff out of the way, putting halloween stuff in, and then a few weeks later, repeating it again for christmas decroations.

christmas decor isnt usually set up until after thanksgiving weekend.
but like the old phrase" If it feels good Do it"

If you want to put it up now…. go for it.
Don’t worry about what others think.
I have never heard any kind of "bad luck" theory behind putting up Christmas decor at Halloween.

after thanksgiving.

Yes its wayy tooo earlier!! Its not even halloween yet! I think a good rule of thumb is to put decorations up the day after thanksgiving, and christmas tree up on Dec. 1.

hmmmmmmmmmmmm…..well………yes! People are so in the Halloween mood right now that it just isn’t the time to put up christmas decorations. Although, I would suggest BUYING them now before people go crazy during the actual holidays.

never to early.

Doesn’t matter what others think. If you want to decorate then do so.
However, if you are buying stuff from all the stores that insist on putting it out the first week of Oct then you are playing into the commercialism but that’s your business and not anyone elses.

Just wait till October’s over
you can start Thursday November 1st
Halloween is Wednesday so yeah

You’ll be bored of the decorations when Christmas actually comes if you put them up so early so wait until thanksgiving but I don’t believe in the bad luck thing. Be patient!

Why not….I love Christmas too and if I could keep my tree from drying out I would leave it up year round. My daughter and I have Halloween lights and decorations up and when we went driving around town to check other ppls stuff out we seen two house fully decorated outside for Christmas…kuddos to them, I am next..after I get the Halloween decor down. I also wanted to share this great Christmas website forum I just joined. ALL CHRISTMAS DIE-HARDS should join it’s fun! http://www.mymerrychristmas.com

Since they already sale stuff in the store, I’d say do a little in the house and as Christmas gets closer and closer add a little more.Maybe do a little each weekend, and by the time Thanksgiving has passed it will all be done. I’ve been thinking of doing the same thing. We have a drop down living room with railing all the way around, and we have those garland with the lights in them, I wrapped them around the railing in the house.
I’d say if you can do any kind of decorating like that start there. Maybe go ahead and hang stockings or something, or get the family together and make your own stockings or make stockings for each other (like have each kid make a stocking for the other sibling and you make one for your husband and he for you). If you’re getting a real tree wait until after Thanksgiving.
Plus, doing it that way you won’t really rush and do it all at once, doing it a little at a time will give your family something to look forward to, and maybe you won’t be so bummed out!
Sorry this is so long but I hope this helps!!!
