I was wondering what date does Tesco (and other big stores) put Christmas decorations up? Or a rough date.

They say on their website that the Christmas catalogue, website layout and christmas range will be up in October but I don’t know if that means they put decorations up in October.

I know Tescos do it really early, like every big store but what date roughly?

Hello.

You can actually get christmas cards and wrapping paper in the shops now, do you live near a Dobbies garden centre? they have some christmas decorations up now. I was at the one in Glasgow a couple of days ago and they had christmas trees up and some of the lights up and tinsle don’t know if that will help you though. I think if Tesco says christmas range up in October they will probably have the stuff up quite early in October.

What are your Christmas family traditions?

Posted by admin on Dec-31-2009

Other than opening presents, I don’t think I really have any. Do you have any Christmas family traditions that are special to you?

I have two daughters and we always let them make their cookies for santa every year and make treats for the reindeer! We also read to the the Cajun Night Before Christmas (we live in Louisiana) on Christmas Eve and every one gets to open one gift. Its nothing too big but something my parents did with me also :)

For the longest time I would just decorate with a variety of ornaments, then after my divorce I stopped using them as many were somehow significant for an event or place that were some memory of where my ex-husband and I had been or done. Then I started doing a sports themed tree and decorations and have been doing that for a couple of years. This year I have seen so many unique colors/combinations that I would love to add, but would just clash with what I already have. I hate to discard the other decorations/ornaments..ect… as they are perfectly fine there is nothing wrong with them. So that got me to thinking….how often does everyone change up their Christmas Decorations/Theme?

Oh I wish that I had some of the christmas decorations that my late parents had but I lost them when I left them at a house that I shared with a so-called best friend and she took them as her own! I had to replace them twice (the last time because I didn’t have a place of my own for a period of time after I had to let go of my first set of decorations and tree after I got away from her)

Every year I make a batch of Christmas ornaments for our tree and then fill in with store bought balls and plain ornaments. This year I am having a hard time finding anything I want to make. Any ideas?

One person’s idea of beauty is another’s tacky, right? =) But here are some ideas I found that I didn’t think were too bad (and there ARE bad ones out there!)

These are for sale, but a crafty person could make them easily:

i donno

I saw this asked already with out a good answer. I have 8 strings but with 4, only 1/2 of the lights work. Why? Yes, I’ve thrown out many sets and bought more but these are new last year and it happens too often. And no it’s not a burnt out bulb – the lit side has a couple burned out and it works fine. Why exactly 1/2 and what is the cause?
No it’s not the circuit! How would a circuit issue light half a string of lights on only some strings in any outlet???
kay kay. I don’t know. The lit side had 6 burnt bulbs and worked fine! I guess 1 thing that freaks me out it the half string thing.

it actually IS a burnt out bulb that is keeping them from working…they can work with one or two burnt out but 3-5 seems to be the magic number in them not working…It’s a pain but you will have to pull the bulbs one by one and test them…weather, use, and normal wear and tear makes them burst(inside) so then the string won’t work. I’ve had the same problem year after year and I always find the problem to be just one more bulb burnt out

…what is a good web site for easy to make home made christmas ornaments??? I need some that arent hard and dont require alot of money
would like some fun things to do with my 5 year old son..christmas is gonna be hard this year..running low on cash..but still wanna make it fun for my son.

Paper mache. Try taking small balloons like the water ones you can get. Blow them up just a bit so there like the size of an ornament and tie it.
Then mix flour and water together in a bowl to make the mache.
Rip up newspaper into long lengthwise strips.
Take a newspaper strip and dip it into the mache and lay it down around the balloon.Keep putting strips on until the balloon is coverd at least once, maybe even twice making it all as smooth as possible.Leave the tip where you tied up the balloon out so that you can tie a loop of fishing line like string or whatever you have that will work to hang it on the tree later.
Let them dry fully.
When there dry the newspaper all around should feel hardend.
Then have fun painting them or even taking nice fabrics of your choice that you can wrap around tightly and glue/sew, etc.
Thats it.
Also try making other things with the paper mache. Like snowmen (3 balloons on top of eachother) or just see what else you can use to shape different things.Be creative and have fun.
Im sure you guys will be just fine this christmas.Remember its what you make of it and the spirit that you feel and portray.
Dont forget to see if theres any holiday events in your city that is free to the public.

Modern Christmas decor Help?

Posted by admin on Dec-31-2009

I was at a party last Christmas and the hostess had a pink tree with I believe blue lights or torquoise lights it looked real modern. Does anyone have any mordern ideas to decorate for Christmas this year?

blue tree w/ white lights… or a silver tree w/ blue lights.. even w/ purple lts… I think colored trees r hard to find unless u have the $$ but even on a reg. tree.. u can add modern things like solid color lights. Mayb try those running lights… that would b more modern. Geometric designs for orniments.

hope that helps

We are moving into a one bedroom home and its very small the kitchen and living and dining area are all attached in a very small room. How do you make the space look bigger and how should I decorate it?
We are renting it so we cant do much painting on the walls

I just moved into an apartment same with yours 6 months ago. You may want to try what I did to the apartment:

I painted the whole ceiling flat white (not the shiny type). This gave the ambience of a wider space.

For the room, I painted the walls sky blue, I changed the bed linens to lime green. That gave the room a fresh and wider look.

For the kitchen, dining and living room, I chose analogous colors (3 related colors). For my apartment, I chose red, orange, and yellow. One wall is red to give contrast to the whole place and the rest of the walls are painted yellow with orange border line.

For the flooring, I picked plastic planks with light-colored wood design/pattern.

I suggest that you choose furnitures and fixtures that are minimalistic in design as the big furnitures will eat up the space.

For my place, I made hanging racks for the books and magazines.

I have a pretty good size room that i am redecorating it is 13×27.
I have black leather furniture and creamy/beige carpet. I have yet to paint. I am up for anything. I want something different. Any ideas or pictures of ideas?? I dont have any pictures, clocks, mirrors anything yet. I wanna do something modern with a flare.
Thanks

for the theater room, i’d go dark. like forrest, or ox blood, or hershey brown, or even colbalt blue would be dramatic. i’ve even seen jet black. very nice for a theater room. then the liviing room part, keep it creamy as the carpet and bring in an accent color maybe the one you used for the theater room. possibly, chairs, pillows, art, vase and/or decor flowers. wish i was there to help. sounds like fun!
