Anyone know a good website with home decorating/style ideas?

looking for ideas for my lounge-fancy a New England kind of look but can’t find any inspiration.

The success of any decorating scheme depends on how well it suits all the members of your family. To create a décor that you will be happy with, think about what you want and also what you don’t want.

It’s a good idea to know what you have before you begun to change things. As you begin to pull your design ideas together, think about your preference and what will work in your home.

Color can work wonders… it can change the look of a room and change your feeling about the room. You can start by looking through magazines, and catalogs. Give yourself plenty of time, it will take longer than you think, and your ideas will develop as you go.

Gathering samples is a great way to begin. If you are starting with a color, your samples might include fabric, paint chips, wallpaper, carpet, wood, stone, and tile.

Knowing what you can spend on a project will give you a clearer idea of what you can achieve. If you’ll on a limited budget, mark off those things that will make the most difference, such as a new wall color and a new sofa.

You can set the mood of a room in lots of ways, such as lights, and furnishings. There are no hard or fast rules or must-do sequence for this process.

What combination of colors should I use to decorate my home?

Posted by Jade Martins on Nov-26-2009

I plan on decorating my apt. soon with dark oak mission furniture, along with accent pieces like lamps, shelves, and picture frames in espresso…. but I don’t just wanna limit myself to those colors. I’d like to add a little touch of ivory or bone white to my decor but don’t know how to work with them. Do these colors go well with dark oak and espresso? And are there any other colors that I should consider using? I’m trying to give my place a warm cozy look, but I need some ideas.

The ivory/dark oak/espresso color combo will look fantastic. Check out these home makeovers from HGTV:

You could also use hunter green, dusty blue, adobe red, dusty rose, or butternut squash – all are very typical of Arts & Crafts style.

Home decorating Software?

Posted by Jade Martins on Nov-26-2009

We bought a new home and I am looking for a software that is easy and will help me choose color patterns and furniture placement. I have tried Ikea, however, it only is good for furniture placement. I just want to get an idea and a visualization of everything in place by just putting in the sq feet of a room. Not by using Chief Archetect, which is far too advanced for me.Thanks!

Get some paint swatches to figure out color. Get some paper with the little squares and use one or two squares for and inch, then cut out the sizes of your furniture and place them that way. Roxanne

i would love to learn something new maybe while am at home,i love to do creative things & love to decorate things too..

do you have kids, if not, what is stopping you from going out?

My walls are bright orange & plain right now.

Kind of like glorious gold or goldfish. Maybe even hawaiian passion (:

My bed cover is reversible so it’s aqua on one side & orange on the other.

I have a square orange pillow with sequins on it & the matching orange and white stripe pillowcase & sheet set

My furniture is honey-colored & my rug covers the whole floor and is sandy-colored.

Any advice on what to get for a new lamp, cutains, desk, decorations, chairs, shelves, etc.

thank yoou! :D

I actually decorated my pool house with a beach theme:
for your lamp buy a clear base that you can put seashells in. add little beach sand then the shells.
I would glue seashells and sand dollars around picture frames, mirrors, etc…
Margaretta glasses are great to put sand and shells in also
Dress your windows with simple white curtains. The white curtains will frame the view from your windows and remind you of beach breezes
Also place oars, lighthouses, seashells and life preservers. Spread a variety of these items around the room. Balance the size and color of the objects so they don’t overwhelm the space.
last but not least Add plants and fresh flowers to your room. Choose long, flowing plants, like natural grasses, so they’ll move in the breeze. Buy fragrant, exotic flowers that remind you of the tropics.

I painted my walls in the pool house these colors, but you choose the colors you want:
Paint your walls a pretty shade of blue. Choose a light shade that reminds you of the summer sky at the beach, or go with a deeper shade that reminds you of the ocean itself. Alternatively, paint the walls a cheerful yellow in honor of the sand and sun.

i am interested in becoming an architect. i know what kind of architecture i want to be. but i dont know what its call. i just want to draw a single homes w/ rooms, bathroom, living room and ext from foundation up. what is it call? interior design or professional home design?

That is called an architect.
An interior designer is a licensed professional (as is architect) who is the type of person who helps out on the show trading spaces. They "design interiors." They will usually be knowledgeable in fabric, color, material, and geometric organization.
A professional home designer is usually a person who is not licensed or registered and draws up house plans. They call themself home designer because they are not licensed and not allowed to use architect.
An architect is a registered professional licensed to practice architecture and design buildings (including homes)
