Home Decorating and Interior Design Ideas

Archive for November, 2009

I am looking for a computer "home interior decorating" program that uses the pictures of the rooms from a digital camera as the starting point for decorating and accesorising the rooms. I need one that is EASY, very EASY to use. I want to ‘try out’ paint colors, flooring, cabinets, etc and cabinet layouts on a kind of virtual room before buying the items.
I have purchased three of these programs and so far they are all junk.
Designers and computer experts………please help!!!

Yes make a search on this website. http://www.tkqlhce.com/click-1748196-10389982

I just moved into a large two story home with an extremely complicated layout, (the kind that makes you wonder what they were thinking when they built the place) with three possible living rooms, just random rooms one big, one medium, one small. As well as two bedrooms.

I am one of those people that has absolutely no creativity what-so-ever… I also have a bunch of random things that don’t match at all. The reason for this is because I can’t afford really nice furniture. I know I can use what I have creatively, I just need some ideas.
Is there anywhere I can get creative ideas online. I am looking for a simple comfortable, earthy type style.
Anyone know of a website, book, etc?

Thanks so much for any help at all.

I love potterybarn.com. Not particularly to buy anything (I think it’s kind of expensive). Instead, I recreate their looks cheaply. If you order their free catalog, you can get bunches of ideas. I also bought their design book pottery barn home. I think it’s beautifully done.

I also look at hgtv.com, southernliving.com, and bhg.com.

Hope this helps.

Can someone help me out with some decorating tips?

I bought a house a couple of months ago. I claimed the first time home buyer credit of $7500. I want to finish decorating my house. The living room is the room I want to concentrate on. I am going for a "beachy" type feel. I have a huge canvas painting over my fireplace on a sandy beach with palm trees. What are some good tabletop decorations or accents that would do good with a beach theme and sand/palm green colors?
Thanks for your help. I am not too good at this decorating thing!

I love the beachy look! We are also trying to accomplish this look in subtle accents. A designer pointed out to me that both Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware have this subtle appeal. Especially if you look at their summer catalouges. I would use their simple, contrasting decorating method as a starting point.

The color of Restoration Hardware stores is called, Silver sage, it is the perfect paint color to set the mood. The use black picture frames with thick white borders and a black and white picture of a beach.

Use dark wood furniture and light couches. On your dark furniture fill glass huricane vases full of beach sand and seashells.

Good luck! :)

Just the standard equipment used by interior, studio and architectural photographers.

This can be a 4×5 view camera down to a professional quality DSLR, but you will have to use the appropriate lenses and lighting. Since your subject is not moving, incandescent lighting is appropriate (and you can paint with light using long exposures … at night)

Okay i want to know waht is the differnece between INTErIOEr architecture and interioer design. BY major and Carrer. and would it be good to get a bachelor in Architecture and a minor in Interior Arrchitecture and then get a bachelors in Interior design.

Interior Architecture refers to the organization of physical space within a building, using partitions (walls) to affect a building’s occupancy. Interior Architecture also affects a building’s infrastructure – such as Plumbing, HVAC systems and Electrical Work.

Interior Design focuses primarily on furnishings, wall treatments, lighting fixtures, etc… these elements, while essential for human comfort, are separate and distinct from the built environment.

How important is home decor/decorating in life?

I was just looking for some movitivational/inspirational advice. I moved into this cool apartment nearly a year ago and still have not had time to get it the way I want it. In fact, I still have a few unpacked boxes lying around. I have a lot of good ideas on what I want to do, but just can never seem to execute them because I’m busy, broke or whatever. Should making a more livable/organized, and pretty apartment be a priority in my life? Has anyone overcome a similar problem and then felt their life change after they got a better organized and decorated home? How can I find the energy and motivation to do this because I do want my apartment to be more welcoming…so I can invite friends and family over? I know part of the problem is that I work two jobs and I am kind of broke. Your thoughts….

Your home should be someplace you can come at the end of your day and feel good, especially since you work two jobs. Someplace you can decompress. Our homes are our sanctuaries from the outside world and a haven.

That said, I would keep in mind that even doing one thing in a room, whether you paint it, add a picture, some throw pillows, will make that room look different, and should give you the motivation to continue in that room. I would start out with something as an inspiration piece. If you already own something that will be in a particular room (i.e. an area rug, a poster or picture, pillows) take colors from those things.

Do one thing at a time. It doesn’t seem so overwhelming that way. You don’t have to buy everything all at once. Make a list of things you’d like, keep it with you and if you see some of these things on sale or clearance, you can pick them up then.

I would also go through those unpacked boxes first. Go through what you do have; see what you can use. If things are just placed in spots to keep them out of the way, just pack them up and store them, or if you don’t like them anymore sell them on eBay.

Need a 3D home design program for free. Any out there?

Posted by Jade Martins on Nov-28-2009

I’m going to do an addition to the home. I was looking for a 3D home design program that is either web-based or a free download. First one to answer with a link I like gets 10 points!

Google Sketch-up is free and I designed everything in my house with Sketch-Up. The free google version has most of the features that the regular sketch up has (and its $500 cheaper)

Its the best 3-D program out there (the extrusion commands are amazing)
