Home Decorating and Interior Design Ideas

It will be 30-40 people approximately. needing mostly decorating ideas and a great punch recipe – my colors are pink, white and silver

Michaels or Hobby Lobby will probably be your best bet. You can get beautiful fabric flowers in pink and white and some nice silver vases. They would make lovely centerpieces. Also, at my wedding we covered the tables in white table clothes. With colored table clothes we cut out a huge heart and placed in the middle of the table. Then we sprinkled confetti on all the tables. (my colors were white, blue and silver, so I bet pink would work just fine) It was beautiful.
Good luck on planning your reception!

Less is better because of amount of people in your house. Some flowers placed in pleasing areas, pink and white. Put away the clutter into a closet to make it look appealing. No hanging stuff..Make sure all the windows inside and out are sparkling clean. Have plenty of trash containers with plastic liners in them ready to go. Extra toilet paper. If you have smokers there no ash trays in the house, just outside. Be sure you have help with clean up during the reception. My reception as well as my sisters was help at my parents house, yard…….Good luck

Keep it really simple, people are there to celebrate your marriage, not look at the decorations. No one will think less of you if you just tied bows to the chairs and had a few silk flower arrangements.
punch: My family really likes the punch recipe on the back of DOLE Pineapple juice. Its pineapple juice, cranberry juice and ginger ale.

If its at your home, you are working around walls and furniture. Clear out large nick-nacks and stuff, and have lots of greenery and flowers. If your close even have some plants, you could borrow them. Flowers dont have to be expensive- just whatever you like. And some (not much) tool could be wrapped around the vases and planters to make a unified look. A flower wreath on your front door would made a very welcome entrance for your guests.
Other than that, just making sure that the food, etc. is nicely displayed really goes a long way. For example, silverware individually wrapped in linen napkins and lined up nicely. Good luck!

Try renting plants from a local nursery run by Physically Challenged people. We have one in my area called ARC nursery. I rented and bought plants from them for my son’s wedding. They charged $50.00 to rent, and I bought huge ferns for $15.00 each.

You may have friends that have potted plants or flowers in their garden that you can borrow. The local Walmart or grocery store will have cut flowers at a reasonable price.

Keep arrangements simple by placing one type of flower in a vase. Use many different shapes and sizes of vases. Fill them to overflowing with blooms.

Ribbon is great for adding color. It comes in many different widths and textures. Combine colors, sizes, and textures for best impact. Watch for sales!!!

Sheer fabric goes a long way in decorating. I found some at a local discount fabric shop for less than $1.00 yard and used it extensively at my son’s wedding. Drape it around food tables, windows, door openings. It is very easy to work with.

Place wreaths on doors. This can be as simple as a plain wreath decorated with a huge bow.

Nice tablecloths can be found at Big Lots or similar discount stores for less than it costs to rent them.

Buy some cheap long stem glasses and decorate them with paint or some other medium, fill with water and float a flower on top. Place them strategically throughout the house. You may also float a candle in them.

Go to the library or book store and look at wedding books for other good ideas.

    Hope this helps, Good Luck.

We had our son’s wedding reception at our home. I went to the farmers’ market and arranged with a farmer who sells flowers to go to her fields the day before the wedding and pick out flowers. The whole family lent us vases. We put all the leaves in our dining room table and used it for the buffet. The friend who catered the reception brought big books to put under the table cloth so that different foods were on different levels. It was gorgeous.

Hi…I just love to decorate so here are my ideas:

~ You don’t need LOTS of decorations since it’s at your house. Pick up all the "stuff" and put it away somewhere – magazines, newspapers, little table knick nacks, etc.

~ I would concentrate on having a beautiful (LARGE) centerpiece of flowers on the table that you will be having food on. Get a nice cut glass vase (Michael’s or Walmart) and get some PINK roses – 12-15 [this would be my personal choice]; lillies or carnations. If you can’t arrange them yourself, find someone who can, or go to a florist. Have a nice white tablecloth on the table, put the floral arrangement on a large square or round (10" or 12") mirror. You can place some little pink tealights around it if you want. Here is a link:

Or, here are some silver ones:

So that gives you your "colors" right there on the serving table: white, pink & silver.

~ If you can, get REAL plates. You can get clear glass plates at the dollar store and even at craft stores (Michael’s). I think it is so much more elegant to serve people on real dishes than plastic or paper!!

~ Make sure everything in your home is clean — windows, rugs, etc. OR just do the rooms that people will be using – living room, bathroom, family room – whatever.

~ In the bathroom, again, put everything away — bath products, lotions, hair products, brushes, etc. Get it all cleaned off. Put out a basket with guest towels. I bought a wire guest towel basket at Target (I think it was $5). You can also purchase guest towels at Target or many places on line. If you have room in the corner of your sink/vanity, place a simple bud vase with 1 rose in it. If no room, forget it!

~ Here is a link to LOTS of great punch recipes:

And here are some punch cups that you can order in your "colors"!!! Unless you want the glass punch cups.

Good luck – I hope you have a beautiful reception!

You could drape pink and white tulle over curtain rods in the house. JoAnn fabrics sells it by the bolt cheaper and so does Wal-Mart. Maybe you could get some pink M&M’s and Hershey’s kisses and put them in glass bowls on the tables.
