Can I replace mini christmas lights with M5 LED lights?

Posted by Jade Martins on Nov-13-2009

I bought a white lighted christmas tree that has 500 mini clear lights on it. My favorite color is blue, and I plan on replacing the clear lights with blue light bulbs that I will get from a few strands of blue christmas lights.
All of the lights on my christmas tree are regular mini christmas lights. I can get regular mini blue christmas lights, but I have also seen M5 LED christmas lights that look like they may fit in the same socket as the mini lights.
I have to order all of my lights over the internet, so I can’t see if the mini lights and the M5 LED lights are the same size or not. I was wondering if the M5 LED lights are the same size as the regular mini lights, and if they are, can you plug M5 LED lights into a cord meant for mini light with out burning up the cord or damaging the LED bulbs?

Please keep in mind that I don’t know, or the ever popular IDK is not an answer!
The reason I am ordering the lights over the internet is bacause I am military stationed over seas. Going to a local buisness is unfortunatly not an option that I have…. altho given the chance, I would love to give a local buisness back home some buisness.

Generally no you can not do this. The bulbs differ from the diodes that produce the light on the LED strings. Also the mini lights have a controller somewhere in the string. Either the first or last one on the string. You will have to step up to the C-7′s or C-9′s in order to just change over the bulbs without any compatibility issues. With all of the large stores that carry the LED’s , why do you need to order thru the internet? Go see what you are planning to buy, support some local business instead of some faceless sales site.
You can plug LED strings into any other string but heed manufacturers warnings about too many all at once. Plug LED’s into one another and you can plug many many together.
